Terrorists and Trolls - same mentality??

As a long time observer it appears that attacks upon the Mudcat Cafeteria Organization share similar traits to tragic events this week in America.

The intent of both Trolls and Terrorists is to create an environment inwhich disorganization, disunity, and dispare, predominate. The cultivated anarchy provides a fertile soil upon which "seeds of discension" may propigate.

When we get people posting here just to break the continuity of discussion here, it's annoying but hardly an appropriate analogy. If someone sent four posts full of abusive language on Tuesday morning we'd have forgotten it by now (well maybe not, but after a week, we'd let the thread die, and it would be over.)

I doubt it is your intention to make light of the suffering of so many in New York and Washington, but this is in really poor taste.

Sorry if I offended you but I found the thread a bit silly. To compare an internet Troll to a terrorist is akin to comparing a summer breeze to a full-blown hurricane.
Both involve the movement of air but there is a wide separation as regards degree of intensity.
I live in a state that is prone to hurricanes but i don't bring in the lawn chairs every time the leaves move. I wait until they are being blown off.
Degree of Intensity. It makes all the difference in the world.
Again, if I offended you, I apologize. Such was not my intent.

Troll (or is it troll),

I was referring to the guest with the ever-so-witty handle who started this thread. Sorry, I should have made that clear.

It's a matter of degree of course. But there are some remarkable similarities. The flaming guests have exactly the same childish mentality. They, like the terrorists, are sneaky bullies who terrorize innocent victims. The flamers don't have the balls to say who they are and the terrorists don't have the balls to be real soldiers.

Both pitiful cowards.

The only real difference is that the terrorists are worth tracking down and removing.

Trolls seem more like the people who take advantage of the hysteria caused by terrorists, by anonymously calling in false bomb threats.

I agree with Jim Dixon's analogy with bomb hoaxers.

The sickest version of that kind of thing I heard were suggestions that there were people making calls on mobile phones falsely pretending they were calling from under the rubble of the buildings.

I find it much harder to imagine myself into that kind of mind than I do into the mind of a suicide hi-jacker.
