I'm looking for the lyrics and any info an its availabliity of a song about the Irish Famine. I dont know the name of it, but it has a lyric structure where just about every verse starts with: "Kilkenny, Ireland. 1890...." The first year sung is much earlier and it is done in ascending order from then on. Can anyone give a hand?

David, enter "Kilkelly" in the upper right hand search window and most probably you have found what you want.

Thanks wolfgang! The fella who I heard sing it was changing the place-name I guess. Hmmm.... or maybe it was just all the stout!! :) Still... anyone know where I can find this on CD or tape?

I belive Robbie O'Connell has recored it, maybe on the Green Linnet label, though it's not on his "The Love Of The Land" CD. Barry

Kilkelly is on a CD from Matt Molloy, called "Music at Matt Molloy's", a CD well worth buying.

Robbie O'Connell recorded it with Mick Moloney and Jimmy Keane on Green Fields of America. Peter Jones found a stack of letters in a family attic. They were all from family back in Ireland. They dated back to about 1850 or so. The song is a thread from one decade to another written by a father to a son in America. A powerful song.

I have been searching for info on this song that I heard on a Boston station that plays traditional Irish music. It was titled the "Kilkenny Song" The lyrics were of a young man that leaves Ireland for the US in order to provide for his family(mother.father, sisters, etc)back home. Please respond via e-mail with any info at all.Thanks.
