What Mudcatters are planning to go to this UK folk festival in the lead up to Christmas? I shall be singing with the Shellback Chorus (along with one or two other Mudcatters I think). See you there? If I can just get this link to work ... Bedworth FF should give the details.

Well since I come from Coventry I could do a double whanny -visit the parents and do a bit of singing -I will give this serious consideration.

I think Manitas and I are up for it... not sure what's happening about the bratling though.. She's still very disruptive at concerts.

Who goes to concerts at festivals? We go to sing, and a bratling is the least of our worries at a singaround.

I think I've gone from an almost maybe to an absolutely positive, inspired by the wonderful singing at Llanstock. If Coventry City are playing at home I shall be missing for some of the afternoon because I enjoy a good laugh.

Is there lots of fringe stuff? and is there somewhere to park a caravan other than the official (pay for whole festival) site? Jude

Subject: RE: Bedworth FF 23-25 Nov 2001
From: alanww

No, I'm sorry Jude, but I don't think there's a lot of fringe stuff. Last year Snuffy and I went without a ticket and found that, if we had wanted to play there were one or two bars in pubs, but as singers we couldn't get into the folk club room over the main pub or the Civic Centre sings.
We were reduced to going to the coffee/beer bar at the Civic Hall and having a sing with typically between 6 to 12 others. A few people stayed on for a while but most just called in between concert/ceili sessions.
I'm also not sure of the options for parking a caravan, as it is a town centre location.
Sorry to be the bearer of gloomy tidings; it would be nice to see you again!

I went down to Sammy's Bar ...

Parking near the Civic Hall in Bedworth on the Saturday generally tends to be difficult, even for cars.

Oh well, it was a thought. We may come anyway - it's just that having bought the caravan it seems a shame not to use it and what with one thing and another (such as other festivals, fixing the car and the trip to Germany) it seems to have been a very expensive year.

BEDWORTH ON A SUNDAY(John Owen)

Come day, go day,
wish in my heart it weren't Sunday
Nowhere's open, the wind cuts you thru',
Bedworth on a Sunday

We danced in the Civic on Saturday morn
On the stage with the audience below
With six of the Morris who can dance and can sing
Our mistakes did not knacker the show

Come day, go day,
wish in my heart it weren't Sunday
Nowhere's open, the wind cuts you thru',
Bedworth on a Sunday

That night in the Art Centre theatre we sat
And we sang every chorus and song
We drank real ale in tankards until none was left
No one cared when the odd verse was wrong

Come day, go day, wish in my heart it weren't Sunday
Nowhere's open, the wind cuts you thru',
Bedworth on a Sunday

And then to the Scout hut to sing some more songs
And got our heads down for the night
We never dreamed what the morning would bring
When we stepped out into the daylight

Come day, go day,
wish in my heart it weren't Sunday
Nowhere's open, the wind cuts you thru',
Bedworth on a Sunday

But remember in Bedworth at festival time
That the wind whistles round the old square
And on Sunday morning there's naff all to do
And you wish that you just weren't there

Come day, go day,
wish in my heart it weren't Sunday
Nowhere's open, the wind cuts you thru',
Bedworth on a Sunday.

There you go, Ali. Difference being, that this year the Shellbacks are leading the Sunday morning survivors' sing, so Bedworth on a Sunday 2001 will be THE place to be!

(Remind me to take the batteries out of the smoke alarms!) I will post the photo to the shell site to save his wife's embarassment. He has already had to explian his way out of a young ladies comment at out local club, "I didn't recognise you with your trousers!!" Ali
