11 Oct 01 - 02:27 AM (#569586) Subject: Has Mudcat ever done a Secret Santa??? From: Clinton Hammond A few of the other MB's I post on usually do one, and I don't remember seeing one here or maybe I missed it... Would go like this... One Body takes it upon themselves to run it... The people interested email their postal addys to that person, and post here to a hints thread... The One Body randomly picks names and emails the details back... Once you've received yer person, you come here to the hints thread and look 'em up... To that person ya send a gift, from your Mudcat alter ego... Just curious... |
11 Oct 01 - 09:28 AM (#569691) Subject: RE: BS: Has Mudcat ever done a Secret Santa??? From: Hollowfox Sounds interesting. You willing to run it? (The international aspect of the 'Cat might make it better to "regionalize" it, as they say in govtspeak.) |

11 Oct 01 - 05:35 PM (#570068) Subject: RE: BS: Has Mudcat ever done a Secret Santa??? From: Clinton Hammond Why does this person need tact, a sence of humour or to look like santa??? All they have to do is collect names, pull them from a hat and forward them to the people that need them... |
11 Oct 01 - 07:45 PM (#570144) Subject: RE: BS: Has Mudcat ever done a Secret Santa??? From: Mary in Kentucky Tact and sense of humor for when 10 million people whine, "But I didn't want CH's name." (My son worked at McDonald's drive thru when they had the Beanie Baby give away toys. Every car held up traffic to negotiate a different toy.) Honesty to not finagle the draws. (I once worked in a company where we had routine meetings in which our boss discussed news items he wanted us to hear...and we always had bets on what he would say. We had to have an honest referee to make the calls, especially since bets were involved.) And look like Santa, well bah humbug, I kinda think Santa's cute. |
11 Oct 01 - 07:49 PM (#570148) Subject: RE: BS: Has Mudcat ever done a Secret Santa??? From: Clinton Hammond I think Santa is actually Tom Bombadil!! LOL!! No negotiations... full stop... otherwise there's no point in doing the random draw... |
11 Oct 01 - 08:15 PM (#570166) Subject: RE: BS: Has Mudcat ever done a Secret Santa??? From: Allan C. I think it would be fun - especially if we worked it like one of those pyramid chain letters. Everyone who submits their name after me sends me a gift and then the last person in the list gets to move up one level. And then... How do you like the plan so far? *G* Actually, I like the Secret Santa thing and would like to participate. It looks as though we have a namekeeper. What's next? |
11 Oct 01 - 08:57 PM (#570182) Subject: RE: BS: Has Mudcat ever done a Secret Santa??? From: catspaw49 I'm kinda' surprised this hasn't had more hits myself. Generally..........Anyway, the Secret Pal/Santa idea is always fun. So do we all trust ol' Frank enough to blind draw the names without "rigging" it??? I mean the "Pseudo" part of his handle and all...........LOL........Okay Frank, I'll trust you.......I'm in. After you get the details, I'd start a Cap title thread explaining it and asking for players...."SECRET SANTA PAL...JOIN NOW" or something, and then give it a few days to draw. We ought to be able to get several more in.....If we can't get at least 26-30, it won't be nearly as much fun. Once the pairs were selected, we'd ahve one helluva' lot of guest postings on the Hints thread!! Spaw Spaw |

From: Blackcatter Hi all, I'm up for it - I love the idea of getting a present from some exotic local such as Newfoundland, Iceland, Ireland, or Newark... My guess is the the next step is to set up a spending limit (everyone got their currency calulators out?), then figure out mail-by dates to get them to the recipiant by the end of December. Maybe a safe "mail-by to send would be December 1 - that should may Hanukkah observers happy (Dec. 10 - 17). pax yall. |

From: sian, west wales My mother was one of 8 brothers and sisters and this was standard stuff for them at Christmas when they got older and married (with lots and lots of kids). Works great! Re: posting, every national postal system has it's 'mail-by' dates - the overseas date for Britain is usually end of October, which I've always faithfully ignored. Usually if I get something in the post by end November it can get to N. America in time for Christmas. sian |

13 Oct 01 - 02:18 AM (#571079) Subject: RE: BS: Has Mudcat ever done a Secret Santa??? From: Helen Antipodes is a term often used for Australia, and antipodean is the adjective/description. In fact, CapriUni is right: it refers to diametrically opposite places, items, etc, but the Brits were being a bit egocentric at the time when they took to calling Oz the Antipodes. In fact Britain is also the antipodes of Oz. Enough of this: on with the show. $US20 would be about $AU40, with the exchange rate the way it is at present, so that would have to be my upper limit. Kim C, and all you other starving artists, remember that the gift doesn't have to be bought with money. We're all into some aspect of the folk arts here, if you paint with a broad enough brush. As one who is drawing-impared, I wouldn't turn down a nice sketch, myself. Or home baked cookies. (Darn, now I'm all hungry and it's an hour until supper.) |
