Has anyone heard of this song? I've got a fellow performer who asked me about it so I am trying to find the lyrics this weekend.

Bells of Norridge, unsure of the spelling of Norridge. I will try to find more information today and post it this evening.

Dick? Isn't this one of the ones "removed at the request of the publisher"?

but chances are very good a forum search will get you the lyrics.

It may have been removed from DigiTrad, but several other sites have it. Click here for example.

Good idea, Jim. But just in case the link doesn't work in two years or so and the DT is still not allowed to display the song, let's have it here in the Forum (copied and pasted from Jim's link).

Julian of Norwich

- Sydney Carter

Loud are the bells of Norwich and the people come and go.
Here by the tower of Julian, I tell them what I know.

Chorus:

Ring out, bells of Norwich, and let the winter come and go
All shall be well again, I know.

Love, like the yellow daffodil, is coming through the snow.
Love, like the yellow daffodil, is Lord of all I know.

Chorus

Ring for the yellow daffodil, the flower in the snow.
Ring for the yellow daffodil, and tell them what I know.

Chorus

All shall be well, I'm telling you, let the winter come and go
All shall be well again, I know.

Loud are the bells of Norwich and the people come and go.
Here by the tower of Julian, I tell them what I know.

Chorus

All shall be well, I'm telling you, let the winter come and go
All shall be well again, I know.

Julian of Norwich was an anchoress, a religious solitary who lived in a cell attached to a church in Norwich now known as St. Julian's for some 40 years. There has been a church on the site since 950 A.D., the most recent building restored after Hitler's bombings. Julian received a series of revelations an illness in 1373 and over the next fifteen years wrote an analysis of these known as "Revelations of Divine Love", the first book written in English by a woman including a line "God is as truly our Mother as He is our Father", a remarkably feminist outlook for the time. It also contains the phrase "All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well", paraphrased in the song. Chords and lyrics can be found in "Rise Up Singing" from Sing Out Magazine and it has been recorded by Bok, Muir and Trickett on both their "All Shall Be Well Again" and "Minneapolis Concert, Live" albums
