The Hometown Band, what happened?

Greetings all,

Back in the seventies, I had two (I think) LP's by the Hometown Band. I remember liking them, and I suspect I came across their music via their association with the folksinger Valdy. I may have seen them at a festival somewhere, but I'm not too sure, the seventies being somewhat of a blur from this distance.

I couldn't find any trace of the LP's in that garden of delights in my basement storeroom, and no song titles remain in my head, but I've still got that strong feeling that I should hear them again.

Does anyone know what happened to them, who they were, where they are now? Album and song titles?

Thanks in advance for your interest!

Peace, Mooh.

Hi, Mooh -

Came across this posting while trying to find out whether there were any sources for copies of "Valdy & the Hometown Band" on CD. The only thing I've found are a few people who are selling vinyl copies of the record along with homemade CDs of the contents. (and for quite a pretty penny)

I hadn't thought about this recording for years, but it suddenly popped into my head the other day, and I remembered how much I had enjoyed it.

I see that you received no replies to your original query in 2001, but if you're still hanging out & posting to the forum, I'd appreciate knowing if you ever found out anything about what became of the Hometown Band, and whether their early work is available on CDs.

Thanks so much for your time.

Just making one more stab at putting this before everyone. Anyone know any sources for a CD version of "Valdy and the Hometown Band?" Thanks for your time.

If you look up Hometown band in Wikipedia there is a link to Valdy and then his website at Valdy.com and a couple of the band which gives you a bit of an update. Doesn't look like the old album is out on CD though but you could contact him via the website and check.

Was not Shari Ulrich, who has a fairly active solo career, not part of the HB?

LOL! I saw the thread title and thought "wow, someone else is interested!", and discovered it was my own forgotten thread.

You know Jeremiah, I think you're right...a-googling I go...

Peace, Mooh.

So I thought, why not venture down to the dungeon and look once more for those albums? Last year's tidying paid off, they were in the first record box I opened. They survived the great purge when I was unemployed.

1976 "Flying" on A&M Records
1977 "The Hometown Band" also on A&M Records

Shari Ulrich, Claire Lawrence, Geoff Eyre, Robbie King, Doug Edwards, and on the second one, Edward Patterson.

My copies appear to be in nearly mint condition (good lined inner sleeves and plastic outer sleeves). Back in those days I generally taped whatever I liked so not to wear out the vinyl, and to take music to work, and in the car. Guess I'll transfer them to cd and have another listen...I've been without a turntable for years.

As for where are they all now, at least I now have names to go on.

Peace, Mooh.

If you go to Shari Ulrich.com you will find a blog by her that includes
a spot to contact her. On the blog you will find that CDs of "Flying"
and "Hometown Band" are ready to be made by the original company that
made the LPs. This is because Shari Ulrich was behind the whole thing.
I wrote to her months ago and she answered my email herself. She was
between gigs so thought she would do some emailing.
Anyway I asked if there was a chance that there could be CSs of the
two albums by the Hometown Band and she said that she had been receiving
several emails about it and thought she would see what she could do.
Well, from the looks of things she has done. We will have to wait and
see, I guess. I don't know if you have received this email or not or
if you know about this already.
