BS: Visitation of Micca: a Retrospective

30 Oct 01 - 06:19 PM (#582830)
Subject: Visitation of Micca: a Retrospective
From: curmudgeon

I don't exactly recall when I was first apprised of the impending visitation. Unlike others near and dear to me, I do not read every thread nor check in on a daily basis. Therefore I needed to learn a bit about our forthcoming guest.

After reading and digesting various and sundry commentaries, I was reasonably sure that the aforementioned madman would fit in quite well at the Press Room Session, he being not too far removed from the home-grown variety of insanity that we here breed.

But lo, when he arrived in tow with Sinsull, I was taken aback. Here was no raving lunatic, but rather a soft spoken gentleman, erudite but witty, loquacious with reason, and possessed of a trove of new and entertaining songs.

And due, most sadly, to Animaterra's most unfortunate affliction, Bat Goddess, Jeri and I were amiably treated to more than our fair share of his company.

. There's nothing quite like meeting an old friend for the first time.

You're more than welcome Micca, whenever -- Tom

Whoops - upside down operator error. Extended diget of left hand over excited!

Should of had the full

Get out more, Guest. You might get to meet some real people yourself.

Yes - he's not a bad lad is our Micca. Just avoid that bloody weird rum;-) Is he back yet? Have I got to lock up the daughters again?

Cheers

I think I talked to him more last weekend than during the whole Getaway. I enjoyed meeting him very much, even if he did appear sane! The songs and conversation were both wonderful. Come back anytime, Micca!

I also thoroughly enjoyed the visit from the gent! His enthusiasm and wide range of interests and humor were priceless! Add to that Sinsull's wonderful presence and wit and it made for a stunning 24 hours. But I missed the whole flamingo episode...

So when IS the flamingo picture going to be posted?!? Of course, it all took place in public -- in front of 'Mudge, Jeri, Sinsull, me, a few green men and gargoyles, 2 deer skulls (8 point and 10 point bucks), and a swarm of cats (who weren't at all put off by the multitude). Keep in mind, it's an 8 foot tall flamingo with a wicked grin.

And the visit was no where near long enough! Thanks, Micca, for coping with our eccentric house and its eccentric inhabitants!

yeah - truth be told - he was great company at the Getaway too, but we wouldn't want to actully let him know that, would we? I mean - it could blow his cover when he recovers and gets out and about in the UK again.

yeah, this is a fine wee man. He is welcome in my home anytime. At times a grand lunatic, at others a wonderful conversationalist, yet others a fine writer of parodies. In short (sorry.......pun intended), I absolutely loved meeting him and feel as though I have a friend. I hope you enjoy your hat, my friend. But just don't get me banned in London, eh? **G**

Just a few questions, Micca. The large, orange, quivering gelatinous mass suspended from the ceiling of the closet in your bedroom:

1. What is it?

2. Why is it there?

3. How do I get rid of it?

This wasn't part of the deal, Micca, we agreed no pets. Jesse's afraid to sleep in his room. I told him it's ok, Uncle Micca wouldn't hurt him. He says Halloween isn't fun this year. PLEASE ADVISE.

Fortunato.

Linn - the flamingo was actually a pelican when we came in and not smiling at all. Two minutes with Micca and she blushed fuschia pink. The rest is history.

Micca was wonderful company throughout our odyssey. I actually put 1800 miles on the car! His only failing is that he wakes up happy and talkative while I try to remember my name and control a mug of coffee.
All of our hosts and hostesses were wonderful. Annamill and Glenn left their door open and refrigerator full. Mattresses were ready for an afternoon nap as were directions to the beach. Anna's home is always warm and welcoming. Thanks, lady.
When we finally found West Chester, we were bedless and expected to sleep in the car or the studio. Dick Swain took us in. I wonder how is wife felt about finding two homeless people tucked away in the spare rooms. Dick had coffee ready first thing in the morning and directions to the best breakfast in town. My only regret is that there was no time to investigate his LP collection.
Animaterra greeted us with a home cooked meal and homemade apple pies.I felt guilty watching her get paler and sicker by the minute while she played the hostess. Warm beds and hot showers were there along with good music, good company and two beautiful children. For the record, her dog is the dumbest animal I have come across in a long time...friendly, handsome, even regal but dumb as a dorrknob. Sorry Alison.
Curmudgeon and Linn's home is one of those place you feel instantly comfortable in - off come the shoes, feet on the furniture. Micca, of course, got just a little too familiar and had his way with the pelican. Then Curmudgeon mistook one of its eggs for breakfast. Sad, but it made an incredible quiche. Yes, real man do eat quiche and in Tom's case make it, too. Rum cake and bourbon balls rounded out the breakfast with Jeri' company and farewell gifts. I hated to leave.

So now I understand the allure of the hobo life. Just make sure to bring an address book filled with the locations of various 'Catters.
As for Micca. He is welcome back anytime. How often do you find a man who doesn't even blink at the announcement "The cat peed on your jacket"?

Stop worrying Chance. Just an example of one of Micca's less attractive habits. I introduced him to gumdrops. When he found a flavor not particularly to his liking, he put the wet, sticky, sugarless blob back in the bag. A nasty business. I don't eat the orange ones so he put them all in his mouth at once. Guess he didn't like them once the sugar melted. Just wash the ceiling well with hot water and leave a few ant traps around. If the orange doesn't come out, prime the spot and re-paint.
SINSULL, who met with a sticky black gumdrop and almost drove off the road.

We have a video that the police have wanted to impound, so we've promised no public viewings. It's Micca eating an icecream cone... not a sight for the faint of heart (or stomach...).

The gumdrop incident. Yeah, well, don't say you weren't warned.

And yes, he gets it in his hair, his ears, and anywhere in a 6 ft radius!

I have Finally I have got myself together from Jet-lag, flu jabs, and work etc. and the inevitable low patch and here are my sincere and heartfelt Thanks you to all who showed such kindness and Hospitality to a visitor. If you are missed out, it is due entirely to CRS and not any other reason. In the order in which I met them, those I stayed with first…
Fortunato (Chance) and Suzette, Without whom it simply would not have happened. They picked me up at the airport and returned me there, acted as my contact addy. for my Visa, and showed unfailing kindness, found me excellent cider fed me wonderfully( except for the grits!!) and are just such NICE folks.
Mary(Sinsull) .. what can I say, she drove me incredible distances, put up with my being cheerful in the morning, was very good company, and I feel honoured to call her friend.
Annamill ( and Glen) for leaving their house open so we could get in and being such gracious hosts and such very good company too…
Max and Mary Mac and Pene Azul and all at Mudcat central for just being there
Dick Swain a lovely man, who even found us a place for breakfast that knew how to make tea!!! And who wrote the "Marco Polo"
Marys assorted Cats …..enough said….
Animaterra, Allison (and Alouette and Maggie and Dylan) I felt at home at once and the late evening conversation was so like the BEST after dinner conversations at home, relaxed, elliptical, funny, serious, and all speaking "the same language" of allusion and half spoken things, and as if we had known each other for 10 years, all in less than 24 hours.
Bat Goddess( Lin) and Curmudgeon (Tom) and of course Jeri ( who sorta co-hosted)
Very similar to Animaterras, wonderful conversations, and exchanges and a comfortable ambience, like we had known each other for years, and the setting of your home in the woods. All red and gold.. and Jeri is a gem, and my darling Flamingo
All the lovely people I met and made music with or heard making Music at the Getaway and at the Press room,(in no particular order and if I miss you out blame CRS) Rick Fielding, Big Mick . Jed Marum, Tinker, Max, Jeff (PeneAzul) Joe Offer, Dick ( the Hurdy Gurdy man) Dani, Daniella, Don and Dolores, MMario, and especially the chance to have several conversations with Caroline Paton. Carol C (a very special lady) Allan C, Bill D Rita Ferrara, Jennifer, Kendall, Mary Lamarca,( for the Wagner song)and her hubby. Bert Hansell and all the others I was fortunate to meet, even if temporarily I have misplaced their names..
I have had the best time ever, and it was thanks to the Mudcat and the friends I have made here and I thank you all for this, and I hope to come back again, as soon as I can.maybe next year..I will put pics up as soon as I can

Micca - I have another house guest this weekend. He sits quietly in front of the TV or pores over the newspaper in the dining room. I keep checking to see if he is breathing. Miss you, love. Hop on your broomstick and fly over any time.

You're welcome, anytime, Micca. We got the margarine off the ceiling, Jesse's back in his room and the orange puppa is buried in the woods. He says you can come back but you're sleeping in Ian's room where one little two foot puppa wouldn't be noticed. Come soon, you're missed.

ROFLOL!

Come back soon, Micca, we had fun.

To GUEST: Yes, I guess people who have shared a great experience can look like a "clique" to people who didn't get to be there. We all have the same silly, happy grins on our faces and that's fine with me! It's a blessing to get the chance to have a wonderful time with wonderful people and I'm grateful for it.

FSGW volunteers work their tushies off for months to make the Getaway happen, and to keep it open and free and fair to all, including setting up a scholarship fund to help make it fair financially.

I was once interviewed for about 30 seconds by a folklorist who is researching the early days of FSGW. She said something like, "You were part of the In Group then, weren't you?" I said, "I'm sorry, I don't do In Groups." End of interview.

There are people who have never been part of Mudcat in any way, who have told me how much they enjoyed having Micca at the Getaway. He is warm and funny and fun.

Come back SOON, Micca!

Rita
