A Late Thank You From Max to NW Mudcats

Big Mick was supposed to deliver a surprise for me during the 2nd Annual Mudcat Concert, but the mail did not arrive in time. I received my gift the next day, while CarolC was still around, as a witness. A flat, yet square box, that took me several minutes to open, contained a bodhran of extraordinary value… for it is signed by the following: Amergin, Mrrzy, ChanteyMatt, MAG, RangerRoger, JenEllen, Stewart, Thomas the Rhymer, MouseThief, and what looks like SarahBeth and BEATTAMIA. Please pardon my error if I make one or two on the names, but I'm up late rather than up early.

In addition to the autographs, a finely drawn Mudcat adorns the center of my new instrument. Quite a gift, I must say, one of the finest I have ever received (my cat, however, is very afraid of it). So please forgive me for my delay in thanking all the North Western Mudcatters that sent me this. It arrived between the Concert and the Move and it wasn't till now that I could truly appreciate my gift and express my gratitude with a mostly clear head. Thank you, thank you, and thank you.

All I have to do is to gander at the Resources page to see the smiles of Mudcatters across the globe meeting each other and playing music and having fun to understand what we have here in the Mudcat. Who would have thought that there are others like us all over the world, and thank the lord we found a place to meet each other. Enough thanks for me, thank you all, I love my new Bodhran.

I hope I'm not out of line saying this, but those of you who were a part of putting the gift together would have been very gratified if you had seen the look on Max's face when he opened the box and saw what was inside. He was glowing.

Emily was there, and I'm pretty sure Pene Azul was, too (sorry, Jeff, my brain was fried). They can back me up on this.

Yeah.........and a bit of an explanation from meself to my NW friends. I received the bodhran from you right on time. I had it sitting waiting for me to leave. Then comes the day preceding my departure. I get hit with an assignment that eats the hell out of my time and completely occupies my mind. The next day (Friday) I had scheduled the day off so I could travel all day in a leisurely fashion. Except I ended up working most of the day, frantically running home, grabbing my stuff and out the door for the ALL NIGHT drive to The Getaway. Halfway there I realize that the bodhran is still sitting on the landing. I call home and ask Missus to overnight it, which she attempts to do. Except they don't guarantee overnight to this area. The bodhran ends up getting there on Wednesday instead of Tuesday.

I apologize my dear friends. You worked so hard on getting it here and I messed up. I hope you will forgive me.

Mick

Typical "Layabout" behavior...........

NW CATTERS....a truly fine gesture!!! However you should really have been aware that anyone in the firm of Lane,Fielding,Patterson, and Swan---Layabouts-At-Large is a bad risk in this sort of thing. Fielding is so absent minded as to be useless, Mick was a complete fuckover, I didn't even show up at the Getaway, and Swan, the fireman, has been busy pulling his hose lately......All the best in Layaboutism at your disposal.

Max, I was going to send you a kick in the balls but it didn't arrive either. Mainly because I didn't arrive. I'll get it to you sometime.

Spaw, can't you just bronze the Royal Boot and send it over? You can appoint someone to use it in absentia as needed?

Well, SarahBeth is my sister. Computerless, but an honorary Mudcatter in heart and music. The toothmarks on the beater are courtesy of my dog, Angus, who took a particular dislike to all things bodhranny, but we figured if anyone can appreciate toothmarks on a beater, it would be our Max....
I think the BEATTAMIA would be from our BENJAMIN? There is no one finer to talk music and baseball, and be stuck in Seattle traffic with.

Just goes to show the power of this community. We had to include a token of our love and wishes, from one truly fine gathering to another.
luv,
~J

You're welcome! As if any gift we could send would be thanks enough for what you've done for us in creating and sustaining this wonderful site!

Max, I think you'd better look that last name over. I know for a fact that "Beattamia" wasn't there (though I didn't get all the names of Alex's kids). I don't believe I've ever had my name butchered so bad!

Trust me, none of them are Beattamia.

I guess it is Benjamin. Very angular, all caps writing, and you apparently cross your J's. Very sorry. Thanks again guys, one more instrument that I don't know how to play yet. Yet.

That's some nice analysis of my handwriting there Max! If you fail at learning the insturment, you might want to take up graphology! Though I think graphologists hate me for some reason.

"an honorary Mudcatter in heart and music" - I like that idea.

Couldn't there be some way of awarding Honorary Mudcatship to suitable people?
