Anybody remember Judee Sill?

I was just about to post a request for words to a song called "Lady-O" by Judee Sill. I heard her sing the song at the Main Point near Philadelphia in 1971 or so, and remember really liking it. I thought I'd try a Google search first, and found that Judee died in 1979 of a heroin overdose. This site, Remembering Judee, has lyrics and discography and a rather sad memoir of her life by one of her best friends. So many fine musicians, it seems, have had such a very hard time with life.

I also discovered that "Lady-O" was recorded by the Turtles, who were in my opinion one of the more musically sophisticated groups of the 60s. (I believe some of the Turtles went on to join the Mothers of Invention.) I don't remember ever hearing their version...I didn't have the album and I don't think that song got much radio play.

Aloha,
Mark

Ginni Clemens in Chicago also recorded this song. Don't know if you can still get her stuff or not. (You can't have mine!)

Yep - I remember her - I still have her LP. I'll have to dig it out and give it a listen.

This is weird. On Sunday evening I dug out my Judy Sill albums and played them for Lorna, (who is into Lucy Kaplansky, Patty Griffen, etc). She said "Who is this woman, she's great". I said "I saw her on Old Gray Whistle Test in the 70s, bought her two albums, and then she vanished". Then I come on to Mudcat tonight ..............
Thanks for a great link, and for her sad story
love, john.
