Help: Have I been evicted?

05 Dec 01 - 01:01 PM (#604306)
Subject: Have I been evicted?
From: GUEST,Spud Murphy

Having apparently thought it got rid of me some time ago Mudcat now seems not to want me back. Assuming my cookie needed resetting I tried that, but it asks me for my password. If I ever had a password, I have long since forgotten what it was. (Damned Alzheimer's again!!) When I submited my e-mail address as requested in order to be reminded of my password, it just repeated the message about not being a member and inviting me to join.

WHAT IS MY CRIME?

Please let me play.....I promise I'll never misbehave again.

Spud

heck, NO! Spud, you haven't been evicted - in fact people were wondering just the other day where you've been.

Not sure just who can help you - if you don't remember your password - but if you click on the "help" in the top right corner of the forum page you can post a message there and I believe one of the elves will mail you instructions (and your password) so you can get the cookie reset.

Boy, do I know about forgetting passwords! Used to do simple things like banjo and guitar, and then someone told me I had to get more 'secure' ones. That's when the trouble started. Used words like 'fingerpick' or 'bluesboy' and for the life of me, had fogotten them by the time I really 'needed' them.

Welcome back Spud. Try your Mother's maiden name.

Cheers

Rick

There is hope, folks. I strongly suggest taking the time to check out Gator.com - a tool that remembers virtually ALL of your passwords. It can also fill in the blanks on order forms for you. I use it all the time. It doesn't cost anything. The only "price" you pay is that once in a while, if you happen to look into a website that somehow relates to one of Gator's sponsors, a popup window appears. This does not happen often enough to be an irritation. BTW, some of their sponsors do have some nice offers.

Thanks folks, for the kind welcome. 'Tis shure ye've touched me heart.

Rick: I think when they expunged me they got me poor ole darlin mither as well. Any more suggestions?

I think it has to be either Joe or Pene. They can e mail you your password but I don't think anybody else can.

there are several little programs that will remember your various passwords for you....but you have to remember ONE password to get into IT!...if anyone wants URLs to one, let me know...

For all its presumed benefit, Gator is a nasty (IMHO) little spyware program. You can read about it at:

    http://www.cexx.org/gator.htm

Since it's monitoring all your passwords and DOES 'call home' from time to time, your private info is potentially at risk (again, IMHO).

It can be very annoying, and hard to remove once you're fed up with it.

figgers about Gator...lots of programs/sites spy on you and track your internet habits. If you don't care, that's up to you, but I want to KNOW before I let them follow me around. There are free, non-spy programs which will do almost anything you want.

Here is about the best place on the WWW to look

here is a direct link to free secutity programs ..(the 2nd one in the list will find and get rid of Gator)...several password programs in the list

Boy! Was that ever close! Thank goodness for the Mudcat amnesty program and Pene Azul.

BOB: No. Not from Idaho. I did work in Afghanistan in 1947-48, right after the war. About the same thing, in some respects.

Spud (Glad to be back.)

Spud, I am glad to hear from you. Aine has gone back to tending the storybook, and I recall you'd said you'd sent her something that never got included-- maybe you need to send it again.... and I need your address to send you back your edited manuscript. Can you give it to me in a PM? Or e-mail--

Susan: Aine took care of the little story sometime in the last several months. It's in her story book. It is titled Holy Cow!II. Go have a look.

As for the MS my publisher (Yeah, I got one!) asigned an inhouse editor to bedevil me and also set me some deadlines, which was largely why I was in absentia, and will be from time to time in coming months. I would be very interested in what you have done and what you think of the story as far as you have it, however.
