Lancs Maritime Fest 2002?

Hi has anybody,(Jan?) heard whether the Lancaster Maritime Fest will go ahead this year?
Last year it was supposed to be the last, but I have seen it listed on the E.F.D.S.S. festivals list for 2002. Les B

The Lancaster web page (www.lancaster.gov.uk) still only has what's on up to Feb. 2002. You could try Lancaster T.I.C., 29 Castle Hill, Lancaster LA1 1YN Tel: 00 44 (0)1524 32878 Fax: 00 44 (0)1524 847472. I may give em a ring myself if I get chance tomorrow.

Cheers

I remember this festival.

I went about 5 years ago

Nice day out:

* 'discovering' Damien Barber
* listening to Louis Killen
* confirming my view that Cyril Tawney isn't actually any good at all!

Good memories

Paul

I was at the festival 2 years ago and had a great time. One very special pleasures was to hear Cyril Tawney - whom I had not heard in 20 years - sing again. I thought his voice and delivery were at a peak - far better than I remembered.

I also enjoyed tremendously meeting John Conolly for the first time. A fine, modest, very talented and generous man.

Stormalong John of Liverpool became favourites of mine at that festival. They practise but they maintain an exciting edge and a great love for the music.

I have known Lou KIllen for many years. It's always the greatest delight to hear him sing!

A real surprise was the Scots group, Harestane, with whom we had a totally wonderful and very late singing session on the (starting) Friday night.

Singers have good days and bad days, good months and bad weeks. What a great pleasure to be able to spend time with people like these! I hope Lancaster goes ahead! What a great festival!

All the best, Dan Milner

Have a look at the Bitter End web site (www.shanty.co.uk). It has festival listings, including up to date info on Lancaster and a contact for latest news

I've been going for 4 years now, along with the Roaring 40's shanty group, and Lancaster is one of my favourite festivals. It will be a huge shame if it's not going to be running. The guest list is always good, and the atmosphere in the pubs is great.

Hi - Horses mouth here! I work for Lancaster City Council and, along with David Wright, organise the Easter Maritime Festival. I can tell you that, yes, it is going ahead, although the decision has been late in coming.

If you want further info, please contact me at work (Tel. 01524-582395; Fax 01524-847472; email vsimpkin@lancaster.gov.uk). If you let me have name and address, I can put your details on to the Festival mailing list, so you get further info as it becomes available. If you are planning to attend and wish to book accom, please let me know and I'll send you a guide.

Hello Shellbacks.

So the fest is on and we now need to know if we are booked as part of it. I see Skipper Derek quite regularly. (we are both residents at the same club).

The last I heard David Wright was to decide where a group such as ours could preform.

Hopefully in the Square outside the Museum, Outside Boots and at Glason Dock are possible as last year

Hi Dave, I think we are booked - Derek's bumff said venues would be the Castle and the Quayside if it went ahead. Look forward to seeing you there.

Snuffy,

I haven't seen Derek this week to get definate confirmation but there is a party tomorrow being held for another of the residents at our club and Derek usually goes to such things. Maybe he has later news.
