LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE ON ME
^^^
Let it shine on, oh, let it shine on
Let your light from your lighthouse shine on me
Let it shine on, let it shine on
Let your light from your lighthouse shine on.

My Lord he done just what he said
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on me
Heal the sick and raise the dead
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on.

I know I've got religion, I ain't ashamed
Let your light from your lighthouse shine on me
Angels in the heaven done wrote my name
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on.

Blind Willie Johnson version. "Probably adapted from a spiritual heard at white churches." www.alex-blue-pages.com
Leadbelly (Hudie Leadbetter) sang a somewhat different version. Not the same song as the extremely variable "This Little Light Of Mine."

This, or different version(s) of this, is more commonly known as "Shine On Me," recorded by Swan Silvertones, Soul Stirrers, Famous Davis Sisters, James Cleveland, Clay Evans, Ernest Phipps (also on Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music), Cliff Carlisle Quartet, and Christland Singers. The printed version is in Songs of Zion (no. 227).

And of course, recorded by Lonnie Donnegan, full-throttle.

I would like to see Lead Belly's version. There is a sound clip by a recording company, but only a sentence or two.

Here's a YouTube video of young man [whose name is given as Brian Carn by a commentor] singing "Shine On Me" . The singer adds comments ["testifies"] to his rendition of the song's lyrics. There is also Church of God In Christ [COGIC] style piano backing especially in the ending of the song.

Here's a short YouTube link to the video of an uptempo gospel song whose title is also "Shine On Me". This song was written by Andrae Crouch and performed by Vanessa Bell Armstrong and the Christ Memorial COGIC Choir of Pacoima, California.

This was the theme song for the 1986-1991 television sitcom Amen which starred Shermen Hemsley of "The Jeffersons" fame. Hemsley portrayed Deacon Frye, of the First Community Church of Philadelphia.

My transcription of the chorus is:

Turn on the light from heaven, Lord
and shine on me.
Turn on the light from heaven, Lord
Shine on me [2x]
Turn on the light from heaven lord
and shine on me.

-snip-

The first verse of that song sounds like:

Turn on the light and help me find my way Lord
Turn on the light and put me on the right road

Chorus
