Another Banjo Question re Kit

I find the 30th Year Catalogue from Elderly to be irresistable reading! Even on my budget for 2001/2002 I have found a few tempting items but I gotta ask; Who knows something about the Nechville Banjovie? Elderly is offering a banjo kit for $72 (assembled it costs $106).

They describe the instrument as a high strung banjo, tuned to C. It has an 8" pot and a fifth string that terminates at the head with the others, but is spiked at the fifth fret for proper tension. Sounds kinda intersting.

It sounds kinda interesting. Has anyone heard/played this thing? Any comments??

Looks interesting Jed. I just might join you in one when I get my catalogue.....'cause I simply have FAR too much money, and nothing to spend it on.

Figure the little banjo can come before:

The new front door.
the new back door
whatever I need for three leaky faucets!

LOL - the truth is I've been tuning my Larrivee down a whole step, and toying with the baritone effect - so, of course I'm actually lusting after the Santa Cruz baritone - but I couldn't dream of partig with the 4 grand it takes to bring one home - so I've been setting my sites on otems that are closer to my price range.

Makes sense, doesn't it?

chuckle ... I sent Mick an Email encouraging him to stop in at Elderly and play the thing. A dirty trick really. I just want to live vicariously through Mick ... and hear about his experiences with the instrument!

I've been thinking; maybe I'll bring my Santa Cruz 000 along when I come up your way. I figure if I offer 'em that and Explorer I just might be able to hitchhike home with my new Baritone.

... 'course I'd probably come home to an empty house!

That is really low, Marum. Between you, Fielding, and Milner, my marriage is in trouble. You know damn full well that I will end up in Elderly next week playing this thing.............and all three of you know what that means. The damn convenience stores and all night gas stations around Elderly aren't safe as it is, and now you want me to go test play "for you" another damn instrument. I have already put Stan Werbin's kids and half the feckin' staff of Elderly through college. LOL. At least they changed the bags that they give you to a plain brown version with no markings. Now my wife just thinks I am bringing hom pornography instead of more damn gadgets. But everytime I pull up with something bigger than a breadbox, especially when I have been in Lansing, she sends my daughter Ciara to make the bed up in the dog pen for me.

Some friend...........hmmmmmppphhh.............LOL. I will let you know how it plays.

I was in a local pawn shop just before christmas and heard a banjo being played down the isle. When I investigated, I found one of these things. It's got a non adjustable head and yes, the 5th. string comes all the way to the peg head. Kind of in the way but I guess you'd get used to it. It had a good plunky sound to it. I liked fooling with it but I think if I owned it I'd play it for a few days and park it in a corner.

Thanks for your assessment. I kinda suspected something like that!
