I had not heard of Music Minus One until she told me about it, tonight. She has just started pennywhistle lessons, in a group thing at the community college and when her teacher said he couldn't find MMO for pennywhistle and wished he could, she said, "I'll bet I know of some folks who will know where to find it!" SO...how about it Mudcatters? Do ye ken sich a t'ing? BTW, she found out, at class, that our uncle's pennywhistle, which she was given, is the real deal, all the way from Ireland, and is thrilled! From: GUEST,Coyote Breath It can get pretty hectic trying this but on occasion I am so moved by something Celtic I am listening to I grab whatever pennywhistle is in the right key (or its harmonic equivalent) and start playing along. It can be pretty humbling at times but once in a while I get in the groove and I think I have learned something from all this, especially breathing properly and 'bending' notes. I will not yet play PW in public but do take it on backpack trips in the desert (which are always solo) and entertain the coyotes in the evening. Seems like this could be a good way to learn should the other excellent methods mentioned above not work out. CB |

All you need is a simple MIDI editor (I've got a great old 16-bit one called MIDI SESSION) and you can revoice them to any combination you like, minus the part you want to play yourself (although you might want to leave it in at lower volume). You can also change the speed and even the key to suit. With suitable software (I recommend WAVMAKER III) you can render MIDI files into (RAW)WAV files and with a CDR create an audio CD. Linda and I are using exactly that technique for Music Hall backing tracks as neither of us is a pianist. |

From: wysiwyg When I want to learn a complicated melody I whistle it along (mouth) with the recording nice and loud and as I get more confident of the notes I just turn the recording down until I can turn it off entirely. The Old Time Music Archive's fiddle tunes work well for this. Can't those be penny-whistled too? The MIDI's can be grabbed off it as well.
