You don't have to thank Spaw, 53, the reason he has all the answers is that he isn't real at all--he is a 'bot! In fact, all of us are 'bots, except for Kemdall, who is actually a cardboard cutout--don't let it throw you buddy-- You're just a number, yourself!!

So much for Catspaw49, let's hope they've corrected that bug in Catspaw50!

SharonA, I love that joke! Too bad they revamped it in the SharonB!

Spaw, I think you're being entirely too hard on 53.

He's not really dumb, he's just from South Carolina. When The Weavers and Kingston Trio brought folk music to the masses in the late '50s the people in S.C. were still fighting a guerilla campaign to rid themselves of the carpetbaggers. They had no time for such frivolity as folk music.

Now, since Bob finally twigged on the Beatles and DC5 (I think he caught on to them about three years ago) I have every confidence that he will studiously trace their musical heritages back through the early days of rock'n'roll and right on back to blues and gospel, mountain music and cowboy songs. Hell, I even have confidence that within a year or two he will produce the definitive work on the Celtic roots of Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston. So I just think you should lighten up on the guy, OK?!

Hmmm....david, that could be an interesting project. I do know that Aretha may have had some Celtic roots as she was rumored to have had affairs with both Big Bill Russell and JoJo White. Just guessing here of course, but I would imagine their roots were prodigious.

LOL - sometimes I wonder why I look in on some of these threads - I haven't the faintest idea of what some of the comments are about, but I must admit I found it generally amusing!

and I think I remember the dave clark five, they were on Ed Sullivan the week after the Beatles, and the girls who missed John, Paul, George and Ringo were allowed to come in and scream for these guys ... have I got it right?

Gee Jed, I'm so disappointed! When I saw that you had posted, I was hopeful that you had some info for us. Since you live in Texas and we're looking for things about Whitney Houston, I figured you might know something.....Especially regarding her Celtic roots........I mean like you're from the Boston area originally and have to have some inside knowledge on the Celtics and then add in the Texas-Houston connection........I figured you were a natural to have all the dope. You really let me down here Jed.................

53 - sorry to be joking on your thread. Actually I used to like DC5 very much when I was young. I haven't heard about them in years, and like you was curious to find out a bit of what they've been up to over the years.

Sylvia Smith who wrote the fabulous book "Misadventures", and is apparently writing another entitled "What I did on my Holidays" used to go out with one of the DC5...

I think it was the drummer...

Mike Smith, the organist in the Dave Clark Five, was one of the very few pop musicians in the Sixties who could actually read music.

I was extremely disappointed with Spaw's link to "A Shitload of Others". All I got was links to the Who, and other nondescripts.

I almost choked when I first saw this link, thinking it would be about the legendary Glasgow underground psychedelic band of the early 60's, A Shitload of Others, with "Big" Jack McGonagall on vocals and bass, "Wee" Hughie Bain on lead (Hofner ) guitar, and Tam (the Bam) Possil on drums.

Although largely forgotten nowadays, they were a seminal influence on such as Cream, Jefferson Airplane, and Frank Zappa. "Wee" Hughie Bain's guitar playing has been credited as Hendrix's major influence, while Tam the Bam;s drumming style has been often imitated but never quite successfully. Paul McCartney copied his bass style directly from Big Jack.

Sadly, over indulgence in Buckfast wine led to the premature demise of a band which had the potential to become one of the greats.

Sadly, "A Shitload of Others" never recorded commercially, and the few bootlegs extant command ridiculous prices in Glasgow, sometimes commanding as much as five or six bottles of wine ............

Doug: Maybe, but according to his posts on another thread, we caught Bob at a bad time. Sorry, Bob. Catspaw had already answered your initial question, so we were just having a little fun while waiting for someone else with more info to post. Sorry again.

Anybody have any updates – or reminiscences – of the Dave Clark 5 to report? Tell us everything!

Well, it worked yesterday, but today seems to be a loser. Maybe tomorrow. They aren't working from Google either so it must be a server problem or something.

BTW, anyone have any more info on JoJo White's root? How about Bob Cousy? Larry Byrd? Hondo Havlichek? I can find their shoe sizes and the like, but nothing on their roots.

That Mike Smith is one of the Good Guys. When I was trying to sell some songs about 25 years ago, I got the runaround from the company's switchboard when I asked for the A&R man who had left the department. I rang a second time and asked for Mike Smith because he was the only name I knew in the company. He got me through to them and I got my appointment.
