22 Jan 02 - 05:36 PM (#633332) Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: gnomad Any repeats expected? Sounds interesting but as so often the Beeb are putting it out when many of us cannot listen. |
22 Jan 02 - 06:39 PM (#633375) Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: CapriUni That is 1:30 pm GMT, right? So, (if I do my calculations right), that's 6:30 pm EST... Right smack during my dinner hour. I'll have my computer on and the volume turned up, so I can listen while I digest. (BBC Radio4 streams over the Internet. The homepage is here.) |
23 Jan 02 - 04:44 AM (#633606) Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: nutty Sorry CapriUni but its the other way round. EST is behind GMT so 1.30pm GMT is 8.30am EST. |
23 Jan 02 - 01:20 PM (#633881) Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: 8_Pints Is it not possible to replay such broadcasts after the event via the BBC web-site? Surely this must be a typical expected benefit. Bob vG |
24 Jan 02 - 04:18 AM (#634414) Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: The Shambles The BBC blub states that Bob Copper is treasured in the US but unknown in his home land. It is probably true that people on the street in the UK would be slightly more likely to know Pete's name but not many (if any) would know Bob's. |
24 Jan 02 - 10:24 AM (#634588) Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: CapriUni Durn! I slept through it! Was it any good? (And Pete Seeger was a family friend when I was young [Mom was president of Clearwater the year they did the first Revival]) |

28 Jan 02 - 12:52 PM (#637172) Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: CapriUni Yes, Shambles, generally, they do -- at least, they know his name. He's appeared several times as a guest on PBS TV specials, and, maybe even more significantly, on Sesame Street (which is iconic in American culture), so if people were of that age to be a fan of that show in the seventies (in their 30's or 40's, now), they probably at least know what he looks like and that he plays the banjo, even if they don't know all the details of his political work. How big a cultural figure is he in Britian, generally? |
28 Jan 02 - 03:19 PM (#637275) Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: The Shambles All folkies would know him of course (the 'mad axeman' of Newport). Non- folkies may remember him as he did have minor hit records (Little Boxes). He would certainly be more likely to be generally known here than Bob Copper would. |
28 Jan 02 - 04:25 PM (#637329) Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: Bill D I just figured out how to tune in and am doing a test...(good, clear sound)...I hope I can force myself out of bed that early... I have enjoyed both Bob Copper and Pete Seeger for years, and I wish they were on for more than 30 minutes...but.... |

29 Jan 02 - 09:10 AM (#637807) Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: CapriUni Yes, it was a nice program. Hearin' old Pete again reminded of one little detail Bob forgot to mention: There is a saying printed around the circumfrence of Pete's banjo head. I'm going to be coy now, and post it in BS: Favorite Sayings, 2.

24 Jul 02 - 09:14 AM (#753646) Subject: RE: BBC Radio 4 Bob Copper/Pete Seeger From: greg stephens There's an intereting comment earlier in this thread, saying the BBC blurb refers to Bob Copper being unknown in his own country. To pose a rhetorical question,I wonder which organisation might be responsible for that state of affairs? |
