Lyr Req: Ballad of St Anne's Reel

I'm looking for a particular song- sung by some Scottish folk group (can't remember which). I know a few bits of it: "He said: I've heard that tune before somewhere but I can't remember when, Was it on some other friendly shore, did I hear it on the wind?"

and

"He said: There's magic in the fiddler's arms, there's magic in this town, There's magic in the dancer's feet and the way they put them down."

I often have trouble getting onto this site, so if any replies could be emailed to me at laura_black@start.com.au I would be grateful.

Not a particularly good link, Paul. The site claims "The Ballad of St Anne's Reel" as an Irish song (!) and doesn't even credit Dave Mallett, who wrote it.

I will email Laura a better link.

Agreed Murray

It was the top result in google and I'm very lazy

This might have been better.

The original link did however have the bonus of a dreadful midi file...

One other thing in the "Irish" site's favor, Paul, is that the lyrics are word-perfect. Very rare to find that. Even in the DT ....:-)

Incidentally, Laura, would the Scottish folk group to whom you refer be North Sea Gas?

Ok- thanks a lot. Murray- I'm not quite sure- I came across a tape I recorded from a CD some time back, simply labelled "Folk music of Scotland" and included music from several different groups. It's quite possible that North Sea Gas was on there.

See also, in the DT:  BALLAD OF SAINT ANNE'S REEL

In the Forum:  Help: St Ann's Reel

A search through the "Digitrad and Forum Search" on the main Forum page for pretty well any of the phrases Laurab quoted will find the DT entry.
