BS: Has Ernie made me rich?

Is there anywhere official online I can check my 1969-era premium bonds to see if Ernie's been good to me? I found one site, but it doesn't look awfully trustworthy. And maybe I'm a secret millionaire and shouldn't be sitting here in this steamy miserable office.

Not sure about online, but there is a list of all winning numbers at main post offices, always let them know your new adress when you move house. As an aside, when interest rates are low, such as now (you be lucky to get more than 4 percent interest on 5 thousand pounds), premium bonds are a good buy, as you only lose the interest you would have recieved had your money been in an investment account. You can get your stake back with 1 months notice, Max holding=20,000 pounds per person.

Don't know if they still do it, but simply notifying the P.S.B. office of an address change USED to trigger an automatic check for unclaimed prizes.

Rates of return on the bonds have sadly fallen along with other rates, but as long as you receive your fair share of the prize fund the rates are reasonable. They are particularly attractive to higher rate taxpayers (a distant dream for most of us I suspect).

I don't know about Ernie, or even Bert, but Elmo certainly made somebody rich a few years ago.

Aloha,
Mark

Mark, I bet you are reffering to the 'Tickle-Me-Elmo' dolls that were so popular some time back. This reminds me of a story:

It seems a lady answered an ad for employment in the production of the popular doll. After being hired she was observed working in the quality control department and it was noticed that she was busily sewing a small pouch containing two marbles on the bottom of the doll bodies. After explaining her reasoning the plant manager said 'NO!!, that is NOT what was meant, you were only to give the dolls two TEST TICKLES'!!
