Pretty well-known song though I've never seen those lines in it: Angeline the Baker

Oh she cain't do the baking Because she is too stout ..... And throw the coffee out

Angeline the baker Lives on the Village Green And the way that I love her Beats all to be seen...

I heard it on Folk Legacy Records Five Days Singing.

For Angelinea Baker go into the database, which doesn't credit anyone for it, I could swear it's from Stephen Foster, can some one set me strait on that? Barry

Thanks Folks, but that's not the song I'm looking for. I heard the song I'm looking for about 30 years ago and the person I heard sing it died about 15 years ago. I recall that the chorus went something like this. Angeline would you like to dance again. I may not be the best, but I'll do the best I can.

My wife remembered another couple of lines. I'll gladly change a dollar for the Jukebox, for a song. Angeline would you like to dance again. Another line was. I'm not gonna ask if your married or not. I don't think it's necessary at all. I won't look at your finger if you won't look at mine. Angeline would you like to dance again.

Could it be the Evangeline song? I think I know the one you mean but it is far back and vague

NEWFOUNDLANDER:

There are 87 songs listed by BMI with the title Angeline, but there's only one titled "Angeline Would You Like To Dance." It was written by Ronnie Rogers and published by Southern Arts Music as well as Tree Publishing. I haven't yet found out who recorded it, when, or on what label. The information here isn't all that helpful, but at least we now know the title of the song for which we're looking.

Subject: ADDPOP: Angelina (the waitress at the pizzeria)
From: Joe Offer

Ah, what memories!
I eat antipasto twice
Just because she is so nice
Angelina.
Angelina, the waitress at the pizzeria.

I keep sippin' minestrone
Just to be with her alone
Angelina.
Angelina, the waitress at the pizzeria.

If she'll be-a
My cara mia
Then I'll join in matrimony
With a girl who serves spumoni
Angelina.
Angelina, the waitress at the pizzeria.
In case you didn't guess, that's the one Louis Prima sang. In the bridge in middle of the song, he slips into Italian, and I won't try to transcribe that part. Too bad it isn't the song that was requested. We'll have to go on lookin' for that one.

Even if it merely serves to eliminate another option, the Seekers had a song with lyrics something like "Angeline is always Friday .. (or Tuesday?).

Hey Newfoundlander,

I suppose you've found it by now but just in case you haven't, I used to sing it in a country band one time. The name of it is simply "Angeline". Here goes with the words.

Here we are a dancin',
in a blue cosy light,
two total strangers all alone,
I'm not gonna ask if you're married or not,
I don't think it's necessary I should know,
I won't look at your finger,
Now don't you look at mine,
Let's keep all the questions to ourselves,
All we need to do is exchange our first names,
Angeline would you like to dance again.

Chorus:

Angeline, would you like to dance again,
I may not be the best,
but I'll be the best I can,
I'll gladly change my dollar,
order two songs from the band,
Angeline, would you like to dance again.

Here we are together, hours after dawn,
two total strangers yesterday,
I'm still not gonna ask if you're married or not,
cos it's too late to matter anyway,
I haven't looked at your finger,
Don't guess you've looked at mine,
We've kept all the questions to ourselves,
I don't even know your number,
but I'm always home by ten,
Angerline would you like to dance again.

Chorus,

Chorus,

There you go. Took a while and a country lovin' Irishman.

Frank

I've also been looking for the lyrics to this song for years. There was a problem with the licensing for it and it was removed from the air and Ed Bruce had no comments about it other than to say he was very disappointed. It played on the radio in the 70's over and over...thank you again.
