Modern Blues

Well, I've seen some things here that weren't very warm. Just like in Guest JJ's post. I have no clue whether I'm a guest or not but I've been to many message boards, many I'm a member. The average age of the posters there is 17. They act the way most people here do. Is the average age of a blues listener 16 or 17? Anywho, I came to post my thoughts on the modern blues. The modern blues of today's society is Rap. Think about the subjects of most rap songs, being poor, having people not love you, singing songs about being poor and people not loving you. It comes from the heart, like blues..any of this sound familiar? Well, if it comes from the heart, and its the same songs..what is the difference? Just a different beat? Yep. It's still directed to entertain and deal with the same issues that the African American society deals with. Now, there aren't too many rappers from Texas, that's cuz there are rich people in Texas, they cant sing about being poor. Now G-W, he doens't have any blues to sing about sept be inept in the head.

Too cool a thread!... Wish I'd been here my self when this thread was started. And, gotta agree that GUEST, Willy-G, ain't too far off on his thoughts on Rap music. But, as for the bobert, you won't find Rap in my collection of LP's and CD's.

Intellectually I agree with you, but I don't like the repetitive beat and the lack of all harmony. It's monotonous and it's kinda based on the premise that you don't have to have any techical or musical knowlege.

I have to disagree with WillyG about poor people in Texas-there are plenty of poor people in Texas, and of all backgrounds--but I think that, if you look at lyrics, you'll see a lot of the same ideas--

As to Rolfyboy6, Blues has a repetitive beat(especially if you consider that the old time blues were work chants, which are a rhythmic phrase, repeated, with a narrative over it--which is exactly the same as any rap number)

As to harmonies, you don't hear much in the way of harmony in blues--
