Sam Pirt's Pupils say 'Hello!'

Hi there all my old Mudcat friends - this is Sam Pirt's mum, still around! I still smile when I remember how much fun I had following Sam round America last year. It was good to talk with you all.

This time I'm wanting to tell you that - at this very moment! - Sam is holding his 2nd residential tutoring weekend for red-hot keen accordion players. They are our house guests over the weekend, and a lovely lot they are, it's working well already. Part of their 'education' is to be introduced to Mudcat (I think 1 or 2 of them know of it already) so I wondered if anyone would want to give them any words of encouragement? It will be great that they can see Mudcat up and working, it's the most wonderful forum that works so well in so many ways. If I had time I could get quite hooked.

Thinking about time, it's almost coffee break time and I need to do my 'hostess-with-the-mostest' bit. Does anyone fancy joining us for coffee and a tune??

Hope you Catters are all well and happy. My regards to all my past friends.

Gill - still 'Sams mum'!

Hi Gill ... I'll be glad to say hello.

It would appear that the US mudcatters are all still in bed as its not yet 6am in Eastern Standard Time. As with any gathering they will meet some people they love being with and others that they are not to keen on.
However, I hope that they enjoy being here and would like to formally welcome them to mudcatland.
PS ....please point them to the STONY STRATFORD and YORKSHIRE GATHERING threads

Welcome Sam's students! I just want you to know that there is at least one accordion player in the US who is perfectly green with envy about what you are getting to experience there with Sam. Have a wonderful time!

All the best,

CarolC

Hope you are learning a lot and putting on weight from Sam's mum's home cooking. Where are you all going tonight for a play? Let me know and I might just turn up and join you all.
Cheers Bill

Hi, Gill, nice to 'hear' from you again. Once thing's for sure, those students will have a whale of a time. Sam is a wonderful teacher and his enthusiasm is as infectious as his grin! It's been good to see him at Cottingham Live again recently. Best wishes to you all.

And a hello from Ohio as well.........Gillie, I'm sure you have cooked plenty of food because I have seen Sam eat.

I know you're all having a great time and learning much too. We are always talking about Sam and Ian and Bill's short visit with us here and how much we enjoyed just their company.........Sam does need some work on his Frisbee game however so maybe someone could trade him off for accordion lessons.

Our very best to you all!

Bill Sables has beat everyone to it and invited himself to a D-I-Y session tonight - good on you Bill!

The day has just finished and 5 exhausted pupils have staggered out - Sam could have gone on for another 8 hours, but dinner is about to be served so it looks like a natural break!

It's so good to hear from Catspaw and Animaterra - will PM (especially as I know know what PM means!).

It's great to hear from you all, the group will post a message tomorrow and it's lovely to have lots of goodwill messages to reply to. Bill phoned me to tell me 9 had already posted. We all now know what he does on a Saturday afternoon - apart from getting tea ready for Lorna!! Looks like a Bill session tonight - great eh!

So - goodnight all. Speak to you tomorrow.

Gill (still Sam's mum!)

How has the day been?- 'OK' 'Brain overload' 'Brilliant'

Been getting sore fingers. Thumb is still OK so can't have been doing it right!

Time for tea - speak to you all later.

Hello Gill, hello Sam, and hello & welcome to the virgins. I'll tell my mum you're 'on' this weekend. As a past student (or should that be 'passed'?) she'll be sure to give you a shout.

John

I just got back from Sam's. If they wern't good players when they got there, they sure are now. Can you imagine being in a smallish room with 6 accordians but it could have been worse. Thank God Sam doesn't teach Melodeon. Thanks Sam for the session, I realy enjoyed it.

Hi All

Well its just finished!! I am really pleased with how it went. I had five accordionists John New, Rachael Priestman, Val Illingworth, Erik Woulds and Frank Moore. They were great and took in a lot over the weekend. I certainly streached them.

We even had Mr Bill Sables round for a music session on Saturday night.

They were a great bunch and some grea tunes were played over the weekend. I look forward to the next, in April!!

Thanks for all you messages.

Cheers, Sam

A big thanks to Sam for a brilliant accordion workshop weekend. It was a real eye- and ear-opener for me. Very impressive how Sam managed to keep people at quite different levels happily involved and stretched at the same time - no mean feat. And when we weren't playing or listening, we were being spoilt rotten with Gill's wonderful cooking. I had such a good time. I'd warmly recommended it to everyone.

Hi Rachel P. Would mind telling me what sort of accordion you have (make, number of basses, etc.), your playing level, and what your favorite piece is that you learned over the weekend? Thanks.

Hi Gil and Sam, my darlin'. What lucky students to be taught by such a fantastic musician. I know you all had a great time and learned a great deal. I wish I could have been there to hear, again, sweet music. Maybe I'll see you all (including Bill) this summer. Either here, or there.

Love, Annamill

As one of the aforementioned "virgins" (!!) I would just like to second everything that RachelP said about the weekend - brilliant. Sam is a seriously talented young man filled with creativity, but we all knew that anyway. Thanks again to Sam and Gill for such a great time with such good company.
