Flatt and Scruggs videos. Available?

Everytime I see one of those 5 second clips on "Country Hits" infomercials I'm reminded that Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs with the Foggy Mountain Boys were perhaps the most exciting band I ever saw in my life.

These excerpts were apparently taken from a regular TV show they did in the early sixties and from guest spots on shows like The Wilburn Brothers, Jimmy Dean etc.

I've tried to find out if anyone is selling videos with these performances on them, and have come up empty. There are lots of other artists available (Merle Travis, Chet, and even some Bluegrass) but not Flatt and Scruggs.

I've had some amazing surprises from Mudcat over the years, so I'll give it a try once again. Anyone got any leads on videos of Flatt and Scruggs?

Thanks

Rick

Rick, I found a reference to a video here but the reference they provide seems not to work. Still, there may be enough information to track it down.

I presume you already have this one.

I'll see up with what else I can come.

Rick, I looked. Found Earl http://www.earlscruggs.com/merchandise.html. They appear to sell a pile of stuff, but no videos. (Main website is Earl http://www.earlscruggs.com/)

I spent some time searching and found these links.
I KNOW there will be something in and amongst these you'll want, even if they're not necessarily F&S.

Clicky (scroll down to High and Lonesome - item # 604)
and
also here is a pretty good catalogue of some interesting stuff. Clicky.

Rick,
I know you also collect photos.
I also came across these in my searching. Photos of all the Flatt and Scruggs albums as well as shots of their 78 labels. You're right though. Very hard to find video performances for sale.

Rick,

Flatt, Scruggs and the Foggy Mtn. Boys gave a Carnegie Hall concert in c.1962. That might have been filmed.

I think Peer International holds a lot of their copyrights.

Also have you tried Elderlys. They have a pretty good collection of videos.

Thanks folks, but as I said, I've tried a lot of places. I'm not really interested in other bluegrass videos (got quite a few actually) and definitely not anything POST their break up. Scruggs seems like a nice man, but The Earl Scruggs Review music was not very interesting to me.

Nope...one little video filled with ten or so Foggy Mt. Boys performances would make me a very happy camper.

Appreciate the help.

Rick

i don't think they are commercially available. when i was in nashville talking to josh graves for the article in the current acoustic guitar mag i got in touch with some folks at the country music hall of fame museum and they allowed me to watch a couple of those shows that are in their archive. i asked about their availability and they said there are rights issues that are not resolved but that they hoped someday to make them public. it was a real treat to see them because i never got to see the band in their prime and they definatly RAWKED!
