Subject: lyric & chords request - Barefoot
From: GUEST,smilee@prodigy.net

Looking for a song--I think the title is "Barefoot." The words go like this:

Barefoot, Barefoot, you can never go wrong going barefoot
Barefoot! barefoot! It's time you got your two feets on the ground.

PART OF ANOTHER VERSE GOES SOMETHING LIKE THIS:
--HE'S OUT RUN HER NOW....

THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP IN THIS MATTER.

smilee,

I searched for it through Digitrad and other places but have found nothing. Perhaps, by refreshing this thread, some other 'Catter will recognize it.

It is a wise thing to include the song title in the "thread name" when you post the thread. That way, anyone who knew the song would be sure to open the thread!

Even if this song is not found through the Mudcat Cafe, please visit us again. Occasionally, we cannot help, but more often, we can.

I fixed the thread title and added line breaks in the initial message. Any chance that will bring an answer?

I looked and found nothing. Not that that is the final word, of course. I have been wrong a few times, (grin)

This may not be the song you have in mind, but it sounds like fun anyway:

BAREFOOTIN'
(Robert Parker, 1966.)

Everybody get on your feet.
You make me nervous when you in your seat.
Take off your shoes and pat your feet.
We're doin' a dance that can't be beat.
We're barefootin'. We're barefootin'.
We're barefootin'. We're barefootin'.

Went to a party the other night.
Long Tall Sally was out of sight.
Threw 'way her wig and her high sneakers too.
She was doin' a dance without any shoes.
She was barefootin'. She was barefootin'.
She was barefootin'. She was barefootin'.

Hey, little gal with the red dress on,
I bet you can barefoot all night long.
Take off your shoes and throw them away.
Come back and get them another day.
We're barefootin'. We're barefootin'.
We're barefootin'. We're barefootin'.

Li'l John Henry he said to Sue,
"If I was barefootin', would you barefoot too?"
Sue told John, "I'm thirty-two.
I was barefootin' ever since I was two."
They was barefootin'. They was barefootin'.
They was barefootin'. We barefootin'.

We barefootin'. We barefootin'.
We barefootin'. We barefootin'.
We barefootin'. We barefootin'.
We don't have no shoes on.

I am on the hunt for this song as well. My dad used to sing it to me when I was a kid.

The chorus goes like this:

Barefoot! Baaaarefoot! You'll never go wrong going barefoot!
Barefoot! Baaarefoot! It helps to keep your two feet on the ground...
one two one two one two sing

Then a verse:

{some lady} has been chasing Byron Diggers(?) She's been chasing him for nigh on twenty year. Now he's got the blues cause she caught him wearing Shooooooes.... Now his life is filled with sadness and with tears... {then back to chorus}

That is all I remember right now. Any other elucidation on this song would be appreciated. Hope this snippet helps.

My wife sang this song in a choir in her youth, and we have a recording of it. From the recording, we have captured the following lyrics.

Dave

Barefoot
-arranged by C. Naylor

We here tell the world's a simmerin' and a stewin' (a stewin'),
And yer radio fellers say it's come to go to pot.
Such a pity, such a shame, but we figure what's to blame
No one's thinking right because their feet's too hot.

Chorus

Wider Jones was chasin' after Hyrum Dickers
He out ran her every time for nigh on 20 years
He sure never thought he'd lose, but she caught him wearing shoes.
Now his life is filled with sadness and with tears.

Chorus

Comes a rainstorm folks will have to look for rubbers.
It's a pitiful waste of time for sure and goodness knows
We'll go barefoot 'til were dead 'cause we want to get ahead.
'Sides it helps to keep a feller on his toes.

Chorus:
Barefoot, barefoot, you'll never go wrong going barefoot.
Barefoot, barefoot, it's time we got our two feet on the ground.

End:
Keep your two feet on the ground…
Yes, sir!

My wife found another recording of this song (http://www.iss-alums.net/tauxe/1957/27%20Barefoot!.mp3), and some of the words were clearer on this recording, so below is an update on the lyrics to Barefoot. Note that the referenced version did not end with "Yes, sir!" but I like that as the ending, so I am leaving it.

Yep. I sang that song in high school chorus in like 1961.   Been looking for a reference to it for quite a while. Thanks, y'all.
