Anyone have lyrics to this oldtime tune? I've heard it sung but can't remember the words.

Do you have any partials, recollections, additional info? I don't recognize it as that name...

Damn my failing memory. Rufus Crisp sang it and it's on a Folkways LP (not yet transferred to CD). I can pick it on the banjo, but words fail me,

As I dimly recall, the chorus was:

Shout, little Lulie, shout, shout
What in the world you shoutin' about

and the verses were the general banjo tune floaters.

I did find out it's a Ralph Stanley song, but couldn't find lyrics. All I found with "little Lulie" is this, and I don't think that is it.

Mrrzy, All I remember is a line something like: "How many nickels does it take to see Little Lulie's body shake?" pretty neat huh?

Mr Greenhaus, How did you whip out that reference list so fast? Is there some cool search engine that will do that or did you dig through your cool record collection?

I lifted it from Jane Keefer's Folk Index--neglected to credit it. Sorry.

If you use Google, enter Folk Index, and it's the first thing that comes up.

From: Stewie

Here is my transcription of the Grayson & Whitter version:

SHOUT LULA

Shout Little Lula, shout, shout
Tell me what you're shoutin' about

[Swing, Lula, swing]
[Whoa –o-o]

How many nickels will it take
To see Little Lula's body shake
Take a nickel, take a dime
See Little Lula's body shine

[Shout Lula]
[Yee-ho-o]
[Shake that thing]
[Swing that gal, Henry]
[Whoa-o-o]

Shout, Little Lula, shout, shout
Tell me what you're shoutin' about

Shout, Little Lula, shout and sing
Your old grandmother's gone to swing

[Whoop that fiddle]

Shout, Little Lula, shout your best
Your old grandmother's gone to rest

[Come on, Lula, swing]
[On my way, somewheres]
[First couple out]
[Swing!]

Shout, Little Lula, shout, shout
Tell me what you're shoutin' about

[Whoa-o-o]
[Swing, Lula, swing]
[Shout Lula]
[Yee-ho-o]
[Say, Henry, when you gonna pass that bottle]
[Reply: 'Bout ten minutes]
['Bout time]

[Shake that thing]

Shout, Little Lula, shout, shout
Tell me what you're shoutin' about

[Whoa-o-o]
[Come on, Lula, shout Lula, shout]

Shout, Little Lula, shout and sing
Your old grandmother's gone to swing

Recorded by G.B. Grayson and Henry Whitter on 10 October 1927 in NYC and issued as Gnt 6373.
