Time to set the date.

Who's in, and when, say in mid-May?

Some details from LAST YEAR'S EVENT.

Well I guess it won't be the weekend of my birthday-- because I think I will be HERE!

Of course if we do the Gathering the week before (around the 12th), and some of you hang around long enough, then we can carpool! *G*

Some changes from last year:

Camping in the farmyard is still fine, more room than ever. The pop-up camper sleeps several, depending how friendly they are!

In-house accommodations are much improved, with two bedrooms and the "landing" room redone that will sleep at least three each, in beds varying from real to inflatable. Floor space and couch-recliner space downstairs as well.

Semi-in-house: the addition on the back of the house (burned-out last spring), will have two large rooms, maybe not much heat, but very snug, and the upstairs room is non-allergenic. This will make a dorm room upstairs to sleep at least 8, plus a dorm/jam room downstairs.

I have a large (double 9 x 13) screen room we can put up as well as the two porches for picking, if it's warm enough.

As before, crockpot dinner (meat and vegetarian) will be waiting for Friday arrivals, and y'all can bring the rest. Using the real dishes worked amazingly well last year but we have trash pickup now so we will do paper (NOT plastic). Be helpful and bring your own silverware. There will be a recycling area.

This does not have to be just a weekend thing. If you can come earlier or stay later, that's great. You're on the crew.

Saturday night-- reminder-- Hardi and I leave to do the Saturday night service at church, and someone who knows the place stays behind to host on our behalf. Last year several of you joined us and we had a great time. I hope more of you will join us this year, for a big gospel blowout during and maybe after the service.

So, weekend of May 10, or weekend of May 24?

Either one works for me.

I'll probably camp in the van again.

I probably SHOULD be here for Mothers Day. Mom's 82,don't know how many more we'll have with her.

I vote for the 24th.

I also vote for the 24th. In my case, the previous two weekends are already booked. Look forward to seeing everyone and apologies for having been a musical hermit since last fall. I've taken on many new duties at work, but things are starting to settle down a bit. Greg.

And MY apologies to anyone from last year who may have been trying to e-mail me, and didn;t get a reply. I got spammed so badly I tightened up the spam filters, but I didn't update my address book fully first. (You're all in there now!)

Anyone else who wants directions-- please be sure to put MUDCAT in the subject line when you e-mail me at motormice@hotmail.com.

Well hell. Pinewoods is the last weekend in May.

So that means do Mother's Day weekend and miss a crowd....

Or do my birthday weekend and miss that Clarion thing...

Or do the last weekend and miss a different crowd...

Or go to June.

June?

Early June?

What's wrong with early May? You're talking a subtropical latitude here! It should be plenty warm enough.

Last year was unusually warm for late April in our area, and the night temps were 33. People who prefer sleeping outdoors did anyway, but there was a lot of giggling about the snowsuits they slept in, and the frozen noses peeking out of the arctic sleeping bags. It was just warm enough to pick outdoors in the sun in the afternoons, because there was no breeze. Of course, for true nawthnuhs, this was fine, but some of the "flatlanders" were not exactly acclimatised. I just don't want people to be surprised.

I'm fine with either the first week in May or the first week in June in terms of being free of other obligaitons either time. I'd slightly favor June simply because of the weather.

Early June is a safer bet for moderate weather. No important holidays s.a. Mother's Day... and it's closer to my birthday! (6/9) (DON'T comment on the date, catspaw, please!!!) *BG*

Subject: RE: Spring '02 MudGather N. Ctrl PA

I've been concerned about June messing into school-end schedules and any festivals that might be going on, but the weather would sure be better. Also, Annamill has often done an early-summer gathering and we both want to avoid overlapping the dates so much that peole feel they need to choose which one to go to. But then she said she has not yet set a date.

Memorial weekend would give us an extra day, but then people so often have standing plans for that weekend. On the other hand, folk music has lost so many people this last year, maybe a folk memorial weekend wouldbe kinda nice.

So let's keep talking dates for another week or so-- give folks who are not here daily a chance to weigh in with their thoughts. When we have a firm date I'll start a new thread.

It feels tempting to do this the weekend of my birthday (May 17-19) as I had first planned, but I am finally well enough to sustain a low-impact weekend event away, and I wanna go!

I have never been to a Mudcat gathering (I'm so embarrassed!) and I've been promising (more like threatening....lol) Susan to come up for a visit since my sister lives right there in Wellsboro. Whatever weekend it is, I am absolutely gonna give it my best to get there......

Now wait just a cotton-pickin' MINUTE, Frank! YOU pick one now to set aside, goldurnnit! And THAT's when we'll do it! LOL! Come ON! You're really going to BE here????

Hm, I wonder if I could do several different weekends so I get to see everyone.... well yeah, I could!

In fact, that would be GREAT!

OK.

There will be two dates, we will be ready for both. People who are worried about one can pick the other. People who can, come for both.

Earlybird: May 3-5.

Junebugs: June 7-9.

Talk to me.

OK. There is a dress-up swing dance at the Armory May 3, and a square dance at the Fairgrounds on May 4th. Who says we have to make ALL the music?

For June, the Tioga Central Railroad will be up and running, the Rattlesnake Roundup is the 8th, also on the 8th is the Laurel Classic Bicycle Race, Wellsboro, 10AM, and on the 9th are the Pet Parade and the Hospital Bed Race, Wellsboro. These kick off the Laurel Festival, which goes on all week and culminates in a great parade and other stuff the following weekend-- and people are welcome to be here then, too.

Well, gee, somebody's bound to bring some.

LAST year.... no, I can't tell. It was too mahvelous. And then the funny thing was I think people were shy about drinking it in front of us-- so there was plenty left for Hardi and I to enjoy post-Gather! Hahahaahhhhahhh!

Let's just say a certain someone took it upon himself to bring several mixed packs of all the best beers you can imagine.... but I won't say who.

Maybe this year it will be YOU!

Is it fair for the house to skim off the top? *G*

Then there were the cheeses...
