Whilst skiing in Andorra one year, I heard a fantastic rock version of FOA...where the chorus was shouted twice. Anyone have an mp3 of it?

Thanks.

It's by The Dropkick Murphy's.

I've got some mp3's including Finnegan's Wake, Fields Of Athenry, Amazing Grace and The Rocky Road To Dublin.

The Phatt-B'Stards dee a 'punk' version - Same tune but manic 'chain-saw' guitar and when the' get te the bit in the Chorus wot gans "Where once we watched the small, free birds fly" the audience punch the air and yell "Yeah Baby! See the free birds fly" Shoutin' at the top o' their voices

Aah can tell yez - It's upset a lorra people but it's gorra huge following in East Kent - Apparently somebody in Ramsgate heard a bunch o' builders singin' it on site one day.

Eeh! The oral tradition is aall its glory

'paddy goes to holyhead' did an excellent rock/punk version. Great hit with the under 30's and a rousing time was had by all.

I once wrote s version of the 'Fields of Peckham Rye'- long forgotten unfortunately but I did give a version to that professional song thief Leadfingers in Sidmouth one year. He may still have it.

'lying low in the fields of Peckham Rye watching the old bill drive by'

Down by the cop-shop wall, I heard a young chav calling
"Darren, they have taken you away,
For you twocked O'Malley's car,
Ram-raided Winston's bar.
Now to Swaleside they are taking you away."

Low lie the fields of Peckham Rye
Where once we watched scabby pigeons fly..............

Somebody earlier said that they had the Brush version. I used to have that on a cassette ages ago but have since mislaid it. A CD (copy or otherwise would be great - my email is woodsie@folkmob.com

Whatever happend to Brush? I saw him with Skid Row when they first came to UK then with a later Skid Row then a bigger band where he played electric mandolin, then with Eric Bell. He was always such agreat performer I don't know why he never acheived the recognition that he desrved.

See Geordie-Peorgie's post above: I think that's the way they do it at Celtic football matches (never having been to one myself, but having dared to sing it in a pub in Scotland - having first determined that it wasn't a Rangers stronghold!)
It as good to hear pete St John's original version at Croke Park last week, even if the result didn't go our way.

To second "Keep musicians in a job", why would you want to steal? Why wouldn't you put a few bob in the sock for the musician? It took all of 30 seconds on Google to find a source where one would buy his works and support the artist. I am sure I could look a bit more and find some kind of website. But it is just so much easier to get it without paying for it. My wish for all of you is that you get the stones up to try making a living out of your music, and some yob like you steals it and puts it on a worldwide file sharing website.

Mick

You don't even have to buy whole CDs now: if you're so keen for a particular track, cough up a few pence/cents to Itunes or similar.
