10 Apr 02 - 02:10 PM (#687205) Subject: guy clark, townes, and steve earle From: Spartacus I don't know if you all have heard it yet, but there is a cd recorded at the bluebird with Townes, Steve, and Guy all swapping songs. It's a fantastic CD. I think it was recorded in 85. Townes sounds half in the bag, but its forgiveable because he's Townes. Steve Earle really shines playing acoustic, and Guy has a couple of gems too. I dont' know if any of you are hip to Martin Sexton. (got tickets for this weekend's ann arbor show) He has a new double live cd out that is amazing. He does'nt have the band backing him that ruined that last couple of records for me. Happy hunting! -Spartacus |

10 Apr 02 - 02:55 PM (#687243) Subject: RE: guy clark, townes, and steve earle From: Bullfrog Jones If you don't know these guys you've got a treat coming! Guy Clark is a song-writing god, but criminally underrated. Songs like Desperadoes Waiting For A Train and She Ain't Going Nowhere are classic storytelling country songs. They go back nearly 30 years to his first album Old No. 1 and he's still doing it now with recent stuff like Dublin Blues and The Randall Knife. I could go on, (in fact I'll come back when I've got more time and go on some more) but do yourself a favour and check out all three; you won't be disappointed! BJ |

Unless I have to have like a secret decoder thingie, like you know to like hold up to the mirror and read like, um backwards, ya know? Sorry, Ditzee Lee got out there for a minute. Seriously, would like the name of this CD. Thansk! |
10 Apr 02 - 07:27 PM (#687455) Subject: RE: guy clark, townes, and steve earle From: Lonesome EJ I saw this CD in the store and I was amazed at Steve and Townes playing together...in fact I assumed it was just a random collection of tunes from the three guys. I'll have to pick it up! I'm not real familiar with Guy Clark, but if he's a good fit with Steve and TVZ, I'm sure I'll like him too. |
10 Apr 02 - 07:31 PM (#687460) Subject: RE: guy clark, townes, and steve earle From: bigchuck Sorry Kat...it's called "Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark TOGETHER at the Bluebird Cafe" on American Originals Records. Sandy |
10 Apr 02 - 08:01 PM (#687487) Subject: RE: guy clark, townes, and steve earle From: Den Lej do yourself a big favour and get some Guy Clark (beg, borrow or steal) he is IMO one of the finest storyteller/songwriters there is. Steve Earle calls him a big influence as does Lyle Lovett to name but two. I dearly love to listen to all these people. Townes I find a little dark but I suspect that's down to hard living and alcoholism. Den |
10 Apr 02 - 09:16 PM (#687521) Subject: RE: guy clark, townes, and steve earle From: Willie-O Bein six years old I had seen some trains before So its hard to figger out what I'm at the depot for Trains are big and black and smokin, steam screamin at the wheel Bigger'n anything there is least thats the way it feels... Look out here she comes she's comin lookout there she goes she's gone She left fifty-sixty people still standin at their cars ("Texas 1947") I LOVE Guy Clark. I have heard that Desperadoes Waitin For a Train is actually pretty much autobiographical... he really did grow up driftin through oil patch ghost towns with his uncle. If it ain't true, it's too good of a lie to mess with. He's got a great ear for words and and even greater compassion for the human spirit. Oh, and that concert that made the album was a fundraiser his wife Susanna organized for a dental clinic for musicians in Nashville. Willie_O

10 Apr 02 - 09:17 PM (#687522) Subject: RE: guy clark, townes, and steve earle From: dwditty This is a great CD. You get a real sense of the show. For the record, Townes is no longer with us, but if you like Pancho & Lefty, or Tecumseh Valley, or Highway Kind, or....well he wrote 'em. dw |
10 Apr 02 - 09:22 PM (#687527) Subject: RE: guy clark, townes, and steve earle From: GUEST,Liquor Lovin' Larry Wrong again Willie-O. Guy Clark said that he wrote Desperadoes Waitin For a Train about his relationship with his grandmother's boyfriend. |
11 Apr 02 - 11:38 AM (#687900) Subject: RE: guy clark, townes, and steve earle From: Spartacus I'm glad there are some guy clark fans left. I love the guy. Anyone get a chance to hear Eric Taylor? He's from the same texas folk circle that Townes, Guy, and Steve Earle. He's got about 4 records out, and theyre all amazing. I think his second and third are his best; one is self titled and the other is called resurrect. The self titled is on Watermelon Records, and I forget the label the other is on. But, if your a townes and guy clark fan, check it out. |
11 Apr 02 - 11:43 AM (#687906) Subject: RE: guy clark, townes, and steve earle From: catspaw49 I whupped up the way Leej did! I saw it at a monster CD joint and didn't even pick it up as I figured it was just a few songs from each. I like them all and Guy Clark get not a tenth of the recognition he deserves, but I figured it was a waste as I probably had the songs.......NOW, I need to go back........'Course I already spent my month's allowance...........
