How many of you remember this great singer? Well if you do , do you also remember the song he wrote called "Nettle Wine"? Starts with "take a bunch of nettles and add a little water.......". I would be delighted if anyone could post me the words and music of this one. thanks Brigid

Brigid, Good news and bad news. Good news - the song is on the following albums -

NETTLE WINE 1.1 Not Till Tomorrow [5] 1972 1.2 Not Till Tomorrow CD [R17] 1998 2.1 Ralph, Albert & Sydney CD [R14] 1997 3.1 Travelling Man [L3] 1999

Bad news I don't yet have them in my collection, but, I'm working on it. Yes Ralph is one of the GREATS, and much more than "Streets".

Hello Brioc.

Nettle Wine is one of my favourite songs. I've posted the words below. The album is deleted now but I've got it on vinyl, tape and CD. I've also got guitar tab and dots. If you want a copy of any of these PM me and I'll get them off to you. (I'll even tell you where the cottage is - in my head anyway!)

Cheers.

Nettle Wine

In my country garden, underneath the mountain
With dead-nettles growing all around the door
Early every morning the sun comes up the mountain
Setting in the sea in the evening once more.

Take some water from the brook
Wondering who it was that took the stones from the mountain to build the cottage here
Two up and two down, miles from the nearest town
I wonder who it was but the reason why is clear

Take a bunch of nettles, add a little water
Drawn from the stream running outside the door
Leave it for a month or two, bottle it and drink the brew
Watch the suns go down in the sea once more.

Take some wood to build a fire
Could you really get much higher than standing in the doorway with a glass of nettle wine
My lady beside me, the mountain behind me
Before me the sea and the red skyline.

Ralph McTell is truly one of the greatest! I was all set to provide the lyrics but I see you already have them. Nettle Wine also appears on Ralph's new live album, Travelling (sic) Man, which is expected to have a US release soon.

Right now, there is a possibility of an upcoming US tour for Ralph. Anyone who is interested in helping to make this a reality, please e-mail me at usmctell@cs.com. Thanks!
