09 May 02 - 12:20 AM (#707191) Subject: New baby born on the S-Bar-J From: Steve in Idaho Had a colt (male). He's a deep Bay with black legs, mane, and tail. He has a lovely star on his forhead. Born around 9:45 Mountain Time. Jan and I both watched the whole process. Amazing. I guess one never gets over that miracle - least we haven't. I tried to get a few photos but Mom is a bit protective so as soon as Jan can get them developed I'll post them. I'll also take some more tomorrow after work. The rest of the horses are all real curious to see the new guy.

Teheeeeee.....Congrats to the new mama and baby, can't wait to see the pictures. No matter how many times you see a new life start, it is always a miracle isn't it? I mentioned earlier in the week that I have a dove nesting on my window sill, by my best rekoning the chicks should hatch next Sunday or Monday, I'll try to get pictures of that also, given the angle and the glass between us I don't know if any will turn out. |

10 May 02 - 10:02 AM (#708121) Subject: RE: BS: New baby born on the S-Bar-J From: Steve in Idaho Just a brief update. We took Mom and Son out of the barn this morning. Put them in one of the pens. The little guy couldn't believe the size of the world!! Mom panicked, as usual, and tried to guard all four sides of the pen at once. She finally settled down a bit as Janet was putting fresh straw down in the covered section.
I fed the rest of the crew but there is a lot of excitement going on. Everyone is real curious about the new guy, the mares all want to steal him, and the Geldings were even a bit uppity about the whole deal. Janet is going to get a few more pictures this morning and then take the film in for developing. Anything good we'll post this evening -
Amos - Glad you liked the song/music. I'm not all that pleased with it but after take # 300+ I decided if I didn't send it - well it would never get sent. I'm going to try Cakewalk software - if that works - provided I can figure it out - I'll send an alternate version along for your perusal. I like this recording stuff. It's a butt load of work but I think worth it.
Have a lovely - |

04 Jun 02 - 05:39 PM (#723069) Subject: RE: BS: New baby born on the S-Bar-J From: Deda Isn't it clever of mother nature to make virtually ALL newborn critters, no matter what size, shape, genus or whatever, bring out the baby-talking, soft-bellied maternal yummies in all of us? So if a baby loses its own natural protector, some one of us will most likely take it in and raise it as best we can. Spiders and mosquitos excepted, of course -- but any baby mammal or even bird can turn me and most human mothers into mush. Congratulations to all concerned on the healthy and pretty baby -- out kicking in the field by now? |
04 Jun 02 - 05:54 PM (#723079) Subject: RE: BS: New baby born on the S-Bar-J From: Steve in Idaho Yes he is out running in the field making his Mother's life miserable. He's a hot shot and doesn't mind very well.
We talked about naming him Comet - the mark looks like one - but I'd already given him the "Buster Brown" moniker.
This is the first year we only had one foal - the past several years we've had three or four. That is fun to watch them play with each other. But Buster has a one year old sister to play with for now.
