16 May 02 - 06:11 AM (#711449) Subject: fish problems From: fogie In view of the urgently cascaded advice from public health regarding not eating shark, swordfish and marlin, should I worry about my increasing dependance on mudcat, what health problems are lying in wait for us all. Whats worse I'm a pisces, and I work with mercury sphygs. Has there been a thread about the hazards of fish? |
16 May 02 - 06:26 AM (#711456) Subject: RE: fish problems From: CarolC should I worry about my increasing dependance on mudcat Maybe so, fogie. Mudcats are bottom dwellers. Who knows where we've been and what we've been eating. Maybe it's time for you to become very afraid. |
16 May 02 - 06:34 AM (#711458) Subject: RE: fish problems From: mooman Though I hate to disagree with you on anything Carol, not all Mudcatters are benthic species. We also have our fair share or raw prawns, angler fish, lampreys and slippery eels. I still credit most here as being real Mudcats though! Very best regards, mooman |
16 May 02 - 06:47 AM (#711461) Subject: RE: fish problems From: GUEST,Crazy Eddie mooman, I believe I have apotted a few red herrings, and the occasional cod as well! Still, I school myself to flounder on, as I do enjoy the plaice. |

Maybe a song from Wales (I know baleanoptra are not piscatorial at all but it seemed funny when I thought of it) "W'ell kipper welcome in the hillside" Anyone for a game of sardines? |

16 May 02 - 10:12 PM (#712000) Subject: RE: BS: fish problems From: Celtic Soul I hate to place a serious question here, as this thread is so very light hearted, but I do need to ask about the following: "In view of the urgently cascaded advice from public health regarding not eating shark, swordfish and marlin..." Can anyone tell me whazzup here? As meat goes, the only thing I eat *is* fish. Is there something to be afraid of that I have not heard??? Thanks in advance!

17 May 02 - 04:49 AM (#712143) Subject: RE: BS: fish problems From: fogie Dear celtic soul, There has been found to be enough mercury in certain fish species see above for a general warning to be issued in UK not to eat them at all if youre pregnant and only one portion per week if youre not or is it if youre a child. This has set people worrying about other fish like tuna |

17 May 02 - 05:41 AM (#712157) Subject: RE: BS: fish problems From: ozmacca Jeez, yea, g'day... and all that Orstrilian stuff. When you hear what they say down here about us having the best fish (crab/prawns/lobster/beef/mutton/lamb/wheat/corn/oats/you get the point) in the world.... (well, they say it everywhere don't they?)... you haven't lived until you've tried a nice fresh barramundi big enough to hang over the plate all round. Mind you, if you try some of the oysters they're talking about from some of the rivers on our coastline, you might not live much longer. Think I'll stick to porridge. |
