Lyr Req: Tequila Sunset (Ralph McTell)

From: Susanne (skw)

Does anyone have the lyrics of this song handy? It's difficult to find on the Net.

Ralph is pretty notorious for stopping his lyrics being published, hence your difficulty in finding it.

Guess you'll have to hope that someone has the recording to transcribe for you.

Thanks, guest, but I knew that already ... Any more help on this one?

TEQUILA SUNSET
(Ralph McTell)

Takes a glass of tequila to raise up my spirits
When I get down I'm drinking them two at a time
'Til I swear that I feel like a poor drowning sailor
Salt on my lips and my tongue tastes of lime

Tequila sunset, Tijuana sunrise
Let's put the light back in each other's eyes
And maybe tomorrow if the wheels can roll
Then take the road down south babe
Get to Mexico

I don't wanna hear any sad stories
…? glances and mirrors joined in direct lines
I bought her a drink and we made an agreement:
Don't tell me your sad story and I won't tell you mine

Tequila sunset, Tijuana sunrise
Let's put the light back in each other's eyes
And maybe tomorrow if the wheels can roll
Then take the road down south babe
Get to Mexico

Whatever we say is just the booze talking
Skinny dogs howl at a Mexico moon
Kids wear no shoes, dusty streets full of dreams
Aim for the dance floor and maybe they'll play a slow tune

Tequila sunset, Tijuana sunrise
Turquoise and silver stars hung in the skies
And maybe tomorrow if the wheels can roll
Then take the road down south babe
Get to Mexico

Well take the road down south,
Get to Mexico

Recorded on Ralph McTell A collection of his love songs NK

This is what it sounds like to me- anyone have better thoughts? One thing I'm not sure of is the start of the 2nd line of the 2nd verse- I think there's a word before glances but I can't make it out.

Noreen, you're a treasure! Thanks a million! I've got a recording of it but I wouldn't have had time to work it out for some time.

Jeez, Susanne,

We hunt high and low to try and help out, then you admit that you haven't got the lyrics because you're too lazy to listen to your own records!

Mental note: Ignore all skw lyric requests in future

Within the last four years I've contributed at least 135 sets of lyrics to the Forum, most of them taken down by ear in a language not my own, so I don't see any reason to hang my head in shame. All I have for your 'hunting high and low' is your own word, guest, and I don't trust cowards! :-) :-) :-)

you could have at least posted what lyrics you heard.

I did hunt 'high and low'

apologies to you, but I'm getting really fed up with people who don't bother to help themselves

Take no notice, Susanne; you couldn't be more welcome. It took me about 20mins in all, and was not a pleasant task, easily carried out for a friend.

Oops... Mental note: proof read after changing sense of posting!

What I meant to say, of course, was:

it was a pleasant task, easily carried out for a friend.

I have an arrangement that I'l try to find and post, but don't hold your breath.

The "missing" word at the start of the second verse I think is "Two"

and no matter about stating the obvious...
interesting piece of information, that
(about Ralph being reluctant to publish)
learn something every day on the cat!

Does anyone have the chords to tequilla sunrise please. I've got the lrics but as we all know Ralph plays some funny chords sometimes. I guess it comes from having six fingers on each hand, how else does he playu like that !!!

According to this site http://www.cowboylyrics.com/lyrics/mctell-ralph/tequila-sunset-11065.html , the missing word is "Hurt", not "Two".

I'm looking for the chords, guest Tony.

This Tequila Sunset performance on Youtube might be helpful in working ou the chords; no idea how different they might be from McTell's. The performer says "Sad glances", by the way.
