Revue- Hearing Francy/Frank on demand -CD!

I meant to post this earlier, but life and Shorty's thankfully short demise kept me from it.

It used to be I'd go in Paltalk and every time I heard Frank sing another favourite of Woody's or something I'd first learned from Art Thieme, I'd tell him, "Ya gotta make a CD." In fact, almost all of us would tell him that. The guy has such a smooth, down-home delivery, so easy and with such a voice. He puts most radio announcers to shame and then when he sings and picks...well, I love it.

SO...he did it. He has put out a CD with a terrific selection of songs, with his own unmistakeable spin on them and it is worth much more than the mere $12 he is selling them for.

I am probably a bit prejudice because he reminds of my dad's singing when dad was a lot younger. Anyhow, I highly recommend getting this CD. It is well done, the singing is spot on and the guitar a gentle and smooth pickin' compliment, though not simple by any means, some pretty fancy finger work laid down there, esp. in the L&N Don't Stop Here. Thanks, Frank!!

The CD is appropriately named: Songs that keep me singing!. It was recorded and engineered by Frank's kids, Casey and Colin, and there's a special thanks to Art Thieme. Here's the lineup of songs:

Gentle On My Mind (John Hartford)
Aragon Mill (Si Kahn)
Heiden Ky71 (Tom T Hall)
Song for the Mira(A McGilvray)
Blackjack County Chain (Red Lane)
My Old Man (Ewan MacColl)
Pretty Boy Floyd (Woody Guthrie)
Hungry Eyes (Mele Haggard)
Ramblin' Boy (Tom Paxton)
Handful of Songs (By our own Jerry Rasmussen!)
I remember Loving You (Utah Philips)
Colorado Girl (Townes Van Zandt)
Clayton Delaney (Tom T. Hall)
Waiting for the Hard Times (J. Ringer)
Wonderful Soup Stone (S. Silverstein)
Here's to You Rounders (Don Lange)
L&N Don't Stop Here (J. Ritchie - KYTRAD!)
Night Rider's Lament - (M. Burton)
Blue Wing (Tom Russell)
Stoney (Jerry Jeff Walker)
Sing for the Song (S. Silverstein)

Congratulations, Frank!

You have to buy it through Francy, which means you have to send a PM, which you have to be a member to do. OR, you can leave contact info in this thread for him. Keep in mind, he is leaving on vacation on Monday next.

Or maybe you can catch him on Paltalk, where his name is NO LONGER Toledo_3, but is now FranklyFrank. It seems when Paltalk pushed its upgrade on him it no longer recognized him, he had to re-register, and now it told him he couldn't be Toledo_3 because it was already in use.

A similar thing happened to me when I went bannerless; had to quit being DaveOester and become Uncle_DaveO.

I'm really looking forward to hearing it, Frank! What a wonderful Handful of Songs you've put on the CD. Several of them are ones that I've sung over the years, and many others are ones I've meant to learn and never got around to. I don't see a ringer on there!

Have a great time, wherever you're going on Monday! Now, I think I'll go and check the mail... :-)

Just got my CD! It is playing as I type. A great deal for $12...professionally packaged and the contents are, as advertised, Frank's wonderfully mellow voice singing almost two great dozen songs!

Alison, it might be a while before he posts...I think they started their trip this Monday past. They are tentatively coming this way over the coming weekend, so I'll be sure he sees this, in case he's not connected while travelling.

Congratulations, Frank!:

You do good songs justice. The title of your album reminds me of a conversation I had five or six years ago with the teenage son of my niece. He was about fifteen at the time and he and his friends were deeply into ska... a punk version of ska. So, I sent him a cassette of ska and reggae, and he and his friends loved it. They were impressed that an old timer in his sixties would love reggae and ska (and played electric guitar.) My niece's son and his friends sat around, listening to the thape over and over again, and he wrote to me and said that it was so cool that I sent him a tape of "the muisc they lived their lives by." I thought that was such a great phrase that I sent them another cassette titled "The Music I've Lived My Life By."

I really like the idea for your CD. Why don't you start a thread of that title? It would be a good one. I'll add my two bits worth if you do.

Or maybe I should start a thread with the title "Music We Lived Our Lives By."

Jerry

Hope the gathering at Barbara's was a good one. Missed it again this year.
Regarding the Francy new CD, I am here to say the CD can't sound as good as hearing Frank sing live. (Safe bet with anyone)
I'm really happy for you Frank and look forward to hearing it. You have me inspired to tackle a CD project. Keep me posted on the Sunday Festival in Toledo.
