One couple changed the pronouns, turned to their audience and said it as a wish to them because they wanted to show how grateful they were that all had attended. All fill their glasses with mead and the newly wedded couple recites an Irish toast: "Friends and relatives, so fond and dear, 'tis our greatest pleasure to have you here. When many years this day has passed, fondest memories will always last. So we drink a cup of Irish mead and ask God's blessing in your hour of need." The guests respond: "On this special day, our wish to you, the goodness of the old, the best of the new. God bless you both who drink this mead, may it always fill your every need." I found one site that, for the pittance of $35US, they will write a poem, speech, toast, etc. for an Irish wedding abroad, relevant to the assumed Irish audience! They have a similar service for all manner of events! |

(Rosie walked down the forest path to the ceremony, to the sound of me playing a slow waltz version of "star of the county down" on the harp......)... plenty of music and songs throughout the day....... thanks for all the thoughts and good wishes I'll post some pics when I get round to it....... slainte alison |

I tactfully suggested that they choose another song. Hardly appropriate since the proposed bride (or bridegroom, depending on the version) dies mysteriously ! In retrospect it might have been appropriate for my two weddings which each ended in divorce. Just kidding, of course, both my exes are alive and kicking and I wish them well (kinda!). |
