The last time I saw Clinton, an absolute gentleman, was backstage at the Peterborough country music festival in, I think, 1988, when even to his own surprise he was headlining. After smoking all my cigarettes, he was so nervous, he walked on and addressed the crowd with the immortal words: 'Good evening, I'm Clinton Ford, and no, I will NOT be singing Fanlight Fanny tonight!' And he had them eating out of his hand!

He is, I believe, a hotelier on the Isle of Wight.

He is also my hero for co-writing The Old Bazaar In Cairo.

Last year he was singing with the Merseysippi Jazz Band at the Scarborough Jazz Festival. He has sung with them on a regular basis since he was a Redcoat at Butlins He is is alive and well as far as I know and living in the Isle of Man. His Russian lady was known as Volga Olga who has the biggest balalaika in the Balkans. Its on an LP called "Clinton the Clown" accompanied by the inimitable George Chisholm, every track a winner

If he's a hotelier in the IOW, he's doing well- he's only a bit younger than my father, who was one of his mates back in the 50s in Salford. And Dad would have been 86 had he lived. But then we knew all the stars- Johnny Virgo played with my older brother as a little kid.

Just heard his version on Len Goodman show on Radio 2.

Haven't heard it for donkey's years, knew the artist shared my surname (Ford), initially was thinking Emile (Whad'ya wanna make those eyes at me for?), then suddenly realised 'Clinton'!

Checking on here reminds me of all those other fantastic, almost tongue twisting songs from Clinton!
