It's also here:

TINY SPARROW

Come all ye fair and tender ladies
Take warning how you court your men
They're like the stars on a summer's morning
First they appear and then they're gone

If I had known before I courted
What all his lying could have done
I'd have locked my heart in a box of golden
And never would have courted none

I wish I were a tiny sparrow
And I had wings so I could fly
I'd fly away to my own true lover
And all he'd ask I would deny

Alas I'm not a tiny sparrow
I have not wings nor can I fly
And on this earth in grief and sorrow
I am bound until I die

[Repeat first verse]

As this survey shows, London Sparrows have pretty well vanished nowadays, and they are scarce elsewhere too.

Very sad.

I am looking for the lyrics to a song that goes like this

fly little sparrow
northwards to the sun
looking for a place to lay your weary body down

tell me little sparrow tell me what do you see?
i see a winding canyon without a single tree

and it goes winding on forever where once the river ran
oh I hope that i can find
one truly happy man

there is more but i cant remeber it or the name of the singer

Titled "Little Sparrow" on this page, with audio by The Seekers.

I cleaned up the transcription of the Seekers song Masato linked to.

SPARROW SONG
(Bruce Woodley)

Fly little sparrow
High above the clouds
Looking for a place to
Lay your weary body down

Fly little sparrow
Northward to the sun
Wonder if you'll ever
Find yourself a home

Tell me little sparrow
Tell me what do you see
I see a concrete canyon
Without a single tree
And it goes winding on forever
Where once broad rivers ran
Oh I hope that I can find
One truly happy land

Fly little sparrow
High above the clouds
Looking for a place to
Lay your weary body down

I seek a land of far horizons
A gentle wind and summer rain
Where the children are not hungry
And they put an end to pain
And I will sing a song of freedom
In the arms of the golden tree
Is there such a place on Earth
For a tiny bird like me

Fly little sparrow
High above the clouds
Looking for a place to
Lay your weary body down

Yes and fly on little sparrow
Northward to the sun
Wonder if you'll ever
Find yourself a home

I thought I had all the original Seekers recordings, but I can't find this one on them. Maybe it's a newer song - it's on a 1991 CD called The Best of the Seekers Today, recorded by Julie Anthony with original Seekers members Bruce Woodley, Athol Guy, and Keith Potger. When I realized the CD didn't have my heartthrob Judith Durham, I listened to it only once. Now that I have the earlier Seekers albums and can listen to Judith whenever I want, I can listen to this one without disappointment, and I have to say it sounds pretty good.

It was a chart hit in '75 for the Seekers (ie. the boys and a new lead singer, Louisa Wisseling), written by Bruce Woodley of the group. In '89 the group re-covered it with Julie Anthony, for the Live On album, but the original recording is only around on vinyl. (The album was called "The Seekers" - like at least one of the Judith albums in the 60s! In '76 they did another one called "Giving and Taking."

There was a little sparrow
flew all the way from Spain
He landed in Karachi
and started home again
when halfway on his journey
he met a big black hawk
who plucked out all his feathers
and said "Walk you blighter walk"

Also Edith Piaf was known as "The little Sparrow"
