15 Aug 02 - 11:32 AM (#765867) Subject: Masato Fan Club From: GUEST,Gern Isn't it about time someone started a fan club for Masato Sakurai? This valuable resource is a refreshing change from the usual run of Mudcat trolls, bile spewers and off-color commentators that have run so rampant of late. Not only is Masato a quick and sure source for traditional lyrics, but in one thread quickly juggles Pope, Dylan and Johnny Mercer. Joe may insist with futility that this is a folk forum, but Masato found a way to weave in literature and popular culture as well. I'm a fan. |
15 Aug 02 - 11:47 AM (#765878) Subject: RE: Masato Fan Club From: Amos Seconded with cheers, Gern! A |
15 Aug 02 - 11:53 AM (#765886) Subject: RE: Masato Fan Club From: MMario Masato, Masato! He's our man! If he can't find it maybe Sorcha can!

15 Aug 02 - 12:00 PM (#765892) Subject: RE: Masato Fan Club From: Bee-dubya-ell Count me in. What's your secret, Masato? Access to databases we mere mortals only hear rumors about, or just plain old dogged persistance and determination? If everyone here could search at Masato's level there'd be nothing but BS threads left! (I don't suppose even Masato can really give a definitive answer to "Why do men wear socks with sandals?".) 15 Aug 02 - 12:25 PM (#765908) Subject: RE: Masato Fan Club From: Big Mick Well, that is because my friend, Joe, is just plain wrong. It hasn't been a "folk" forum for a long time. But it has been a great community of folkies for a long time. Masato............his arrival may very well be the best thing that ever happened here. Count me in as a No. 1, first class, stark raving, rabid, fan of his. Tell me where to send the dues, and how I get my Masato beanie cap and secret decoder ring...............LOL. He is the best. Mick |

15 Aug 02 - 02:04 PM (#765994) Subject: RE: Masato Fan Club From: Ebbie I agree. I'm sure I'm not alone in watching for his post on a particularly obscure piece of music- often it's a definitive answer. Thank you, Masato. It just occurred to me: perhaps Masato is not an individual, but a club of people who pool their resources?? :) |

15 Aug 02 - 08:08 PM (#766192) Subject: RE: Masato Fan Club From: Jerry Rasmussen "Sign me up for the Christian Jubilee," and for the Masato Fan club. I've known people who were extremely knowledgeable for were so arrogant and condescending about it that I think I'd rather stay ignorant. Masato is just the opposite: unassuming, generous and there to give all the attention to the music, not himself. You set a wonderful example for all of us, Masato!
And I imagine Masato can post ten variants of the song quoted here... :-) Jerry |
15 Aug 02 - 10:05 PM (#766235) Subject: RE: Masato Fan Club From: The Pooka Sign me on too. Masato Sakurai: the Best of the Mudcat. Thank you, modest Masato. Your are a Wonder; and your fans are legion. |

16 Aug 02 - 02:49 AM (#766312) Subject: RE: Masato Fan Club From: Genie Maybe we should all chip in and buy you an air conditioner, eh, Masato?! It'd be the least we could do. My thanks, too, for all your very well-researched answers to posted queries.
One of my questions about you was finally answered a month or two ago -- i.e. that you are, indeed, a man. I could not tell from your name. (Not perhaps all that important, but I had to avoid personal pronouns when referring to you before that.) The other two, still unanswered, are: Is "Sakurai" a form of the word "Sakura?" Do you ever post questions for the rest of us Mudcatters to answer? *BG* Many, many thanks, Masato. Genie |
16 Aug 02 - 03:39 AM (#766321) Subject: RE: Masato Fan Club From: masato sakurai Genie, yes for the first question, no for the second. Sakurai is from "sakura" meaning "cherry blossoms" and "i (from 'ido')" meaning "well (for obtaining water)". Of course, I have a lot of questions (the more we know, the more puzzles and mysteries we have), which I'll post in the meantime one by one. I'm busy answering at present. ~Masato |
16 Aug 02 - 03:42 AM (#766322) Subject: RE: Masato Fan Club From: Genie So you're the one who waters the cherry blossoms! Fantastic! |
17 Aug 02 - 02:50 AM (#766859) Subject: RE: Masato Fan Club From: open mike yes-agreed-often Masato has the best, and quickest answers. Do you ever sleep? Are you in Japan? Here is a question I have been researching--I am looking for information on a song (gospel/hymn) writer named R.H. Cornelius, who published some song books in TX in the 20's. (specifically Heart Songs) I once found a biographical note that he used to be a miner, and that he was from Cornwall, Wales. Any more info outthere about his Welsch heritage?? or his mining career? Thanks! it occurs that i might start a new thread about this fellow....once again, thanks for being the wonderful resource that you are...I was thinking you were going to say it was 120 degrees--August is the time of the most intense temperature!! hope you find some way of keeping cool! I have no air conditioning, either, which is one reason i am on here at midnight.. when it finally cooled down.... |

Not only are you a wizard at Internet research, you are also an amazing repository of folk music knowledge yourself. From the time zone difference you referenced above, I'm guessing that you live in Japan but Indonesia and Australia are also possibilities. I don't mean to pry but are you also a scientist working in the field of microgravity research and fluid mechanics? - Mark |
