03 Sep 02 - 06:42 PM (#776436) Subject: RE: Hobo in my mind From: Joe Offer There are lots of Paxton lyrics on this page (click) but not "Hobo in my Mind." This page (click) says the song was on a 1973 Paxton album called "New Songs for Old Friends." I don't think the album is available. -Joe Offer- |

09 Nov 02 - 01:47 AM (#822052) Subject: Lyr Add: HOBO IN MY MIND (Tom Paxton) From: Gurney I was looking through the unanswered threads and found that no-one had answered a request for Tom Paxton's 'Hobo in My Mind.' HOBO IN MY MIND. Composed by Tom Paxton. c 1974 United Artists Music Co. From the album 'New songs for old friends. A lovely LP. Up on Smoky mountain, Drinking from a soda fountain, That's where I was when I was A hobo in my mind. Hoppin' freights and pickin' dates, Gobblin' beans from old tin plates, It seems like years since I was just A hobo in my mind. It did no harm, it set my mind To dreamin' of a way, To get my hands on something That I had to find someday, Far beyond Chicago, Somewhere where the longest trains go, That's where I was when I was A hobo in my mind. (short instrumental break) Me and a couple of buddies, We didn't care if our shoes got muddy, We didn't care where the trains were bound We'd ride them rascals blind. Oh, maybe I was crazy, Maybe just my foolish ways, But that's where I was when I was A hobo in my mind. (repeat middle verse twice, quiet finish with repeat "Thats where I was when I was a hobo in my mind." |

I must have overlooked this thread entirely after refreshing it myself. After claiming I didn't know this song existed I find that not only do I own the album Joe Offer refers to - the lyrics are actually printed on the back of the sleeve! Awfully sorry, and my only excuse is this is my least favourite Paxton album. I think I've listened to it twice since buying it. (Which does not explain why the song didn't show up in my database when I was first asked for it. It's definitely there! Folk gremlins?) |
