How far's Muskegon from Windsor/Detroit, Mick? We'd love to see both you guys in the flesh.

Once you are in the US, it is about a 3 to 3 1/2 hour drive Rick. The best route would probably be through Port Huron and take I69 west to I96 west and then stay on it all the way to Muskegon.

It would be wonderful to have you there.

This place never ceases to amaze me. I look at al the good feelings expressed, and the friendships made, and realize just what a jewel we have here. Meeting Seamus at this festival just reinforced that which I have to know. We are a community, just as surely as if we all lived together in the same town.

Seamus was a pure delight. It is absolutely no wonder to me that he receives such accolades. He is, quite frankly, just an amazing performer. He is accomplished on his instruments, has a huge repertoire in his head, connects with his audience in a personal way filled with humor, history, fun and emotion, and has an obvious respect for the music of our people. He is one of those folks that one just feels immediately at ease with. He came into the acoustic tent we were jamming in and immediately connected in that special way that musicians know all about. To say the crowd loved him is classic understatement.

So here is to good friends, finally met. Seamus,......my friend......I am so glad we finally got to know one another. May our friendship last. You have made the music so much better for me.

So Mick and Seamus beat Rick and the Beef brothers?

We need a set of folky picture cards to trade

Nope, Jed. Heather's sister showed up for a visit.

The man is a wee lunatic of the very finest kind. I love people like this. I was playing the opening set of the Festival on Friday night, and in struts this wee man, comes straight to the front of the stage, genuflects in front of me and walks away. I don't recall what I was singing, but I do recall thinking "There's Seamus", and then invoking mental discipline par excellence in order not to break out roaring in laughter in the middle of a song. Later that night during another gig he hopped up on stage and proceeded to charm the hell out of the place. One of the things that we do is host a seisĂșn tent. Seamus spent hours in there just singing and playing. And he had this funny stuff in a flask, I am not sure what it was. In fact, I was so unsure of what it was that I tried it 15 or 20 times to see if I could figure it out. I ended up banging on the bodhran and singing Inagaddadavida while standing on my head..........not sure what that stuff was, but I would like to get more...........got to learn that song on the Uilleann Pipes........LOL.

I don't suppose he's going to make the getaway? There is a man I would dearly love to meet.

Hi guys. I'm just back from a well-deserved R. & R. (rest and recovery) from a well-run and friendly festival. It was a delight to meet Big Mick, and to hear the Conklin Ceili band. Those folks are talented musicians, good entertainers, great fun and just plain nice. As well as Jeremy Kittel - what a talented fiddler - and Switchback. Excellent acts all. And the craic in the acoustic tent was mighty, with performers sharing instruments and singing. You have a fine repertoire yourself, big lad. Mick, it was poitĂn in the flask, from Ireland. I brought it back with me from my July tour there. Good, wasn't it? I hope to see you again in the not too distant future, sir.

Morticia, I don't know if I'll make the Getaway, but I think I might be able to spend a few hours there on Sunday on my way home from a gig in Connecticut. I don't know what the procedure is for coming for a limited time on the last day, but it would be nice to meet a few other 'Catters.
