9/11: Thank You ,U.K.

C-Span broadcast the services for 9/11 remembrence from St Paul's Cathedrral with such profoundly beautiful music . To then hear our national anthem offered up with that choir and attenedees was just such deeply touching gesture that I just couldn't let it go by without expressing sincere appreciation for the U.K.'s open and unreserved solidarity. It's a part of my V-tape library forever and will be revisited atleast every 9/11 if just for the healing of that sublime music.

Just wanted to let the U.K. know that their expression of healing has touched these shores alondg with not a few hearts and spirits and was greatly appreciated.

Well done.

Wow. There are times I regret *not* getting any TV at all. This would be one of them.

Add my thanks as well.

LOL ;@ Man , I knew I was going to get this signature smart-arsed response the moment I pressed the "send" button and it's well-taken.

But , for those here whom may have seen this event , this was just meant as a general shout-out to those whom may have shared in this unique *musical* healing experience on either side of "the pond".

So sorry if it ain't folk music *pure* enough for some, but it be music with a purpose just the same .

Not to worry. C-Span commonly makes VHS copies ( no PAL standard ) of it's programming available for purchase. I'll post the URL for those genuinely interested in adding this to their collection for 9/11 remembrances. It even stands on it s own just as a magnificient concert in one of the most beautifully grand concert halls in the world.

GUEST,Taliesn: I dont think Smallpiper was being smart-arsed. Manchester, Lancs, and Leesburg,VA, just handle English a little differently.

Really? There was I thinking that St Paul's Cathedral was a place of worship!

Seriously though, what else could the City of London have done? The trading links between the US and the UK are immensely strong, many people from the UK died in the attack and many Americans were in the City (some in our own offices) watching the news come in and fearing for colleagues. The links had to be reaffirmed and the service was a public way of doing it

Agreed and I meant "smart-arsed" in the way I've come to know that species of Brit-wit that specializes in it's matter of factness. As I said it was "well-taken and , knowing what I had just opened my post up to, I'd have been disappointed had I *not* gotten this " Well ,on behalf of the entire United Kingdom, you're quite welcome" response.

I know ,too many years of Monty Python has done its damage. ;-)

Be at peace and trust that this fact was not lost on anyone. ;-)

Agreed, but the more "realpolitique" of the moment you keenly cite still can not diminish the grace and healing of the moment and it was appreciated nonetheless . I was just glad that I could share in it from Dulles, Virginia and wondered whom else had or would like to have but fifn't know it was broadcast.

That and to give another little "well done" for C-span for being the only place to see this in the U.S. in its entirely without some squawking head offering unasked for commentary.

This was played last year (at Buckingham Palace I believe) at this time with the Queen in attendance and I saw the whole thing on CBS, late one night.

It's a good song. Why you in the USA let arrogant show-offs tear the heart out of at your sporting events defeats me.

Here's a picture of our local fire station yesterday.

Can we have our tea back now?

I was offered a cup of tea in America made by putting a teabag in a mug of cold water and then sticking it in a microwave. I think chucking tealeaves into Boston harbour and stirring with oars is a much better idea.

Yes and amen.

Thank you -- brother/sister Britain -- for everything: and especially for the stength, courage and hope you will continue to provide in the dark days to come.

We've won wars together before. This one will be no exception.

Tony

And thanks to Cyril "Rick" Rescorla ... Cornish, British, and American hero ... an inspiration who perished in the WTC. Thank you Hayle for sending us your son ...

So Greg, what was your point about the tea? Was it in the microwave too long?

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the photo link - similar scene at the Fire Station in Portsmouth plus a very good article in the News. Fully dressed fire crews stood for two minutes silence.

In another post you mentioned a documentary you saw about the members of a New York Fire Station filmed on September 11th, 2001. I saw the same and was both moved and incredibly impressed with it.

And I think you'd have seen something similar at every fire station in the country. It wasn't just the big public ceremonies.

But don't anyone misunderstand what it means. If this war comes, the Firemen and their Union will be well to the fore in rallies against the war.

They unveiled a memorial stone to Cyril Rescorla in Hayle Day before yesterday.
May his rest be peaceful along with all the other victims.

Thanks indeed, UK. God bless England. And thanks especially for the firehouse photo, McGrath. No, we don't misunderstand. 2 different things. Americans are conflicted now; many are of are *very* uncomfortable (weak word) about loosing the dogs of a pre-emptive war.

Nice of you folks to start and support this thread.
Being a Territorial (like your National Guard) I'm wondering if I might soon be serving alongside some of you guys.
Best wishes,
Keith.

I sometimes wax vituperative against the UK, especially when it comes to the N. of I., but it is photos like the one McGrath posted and the support it represents that make me glad that we are still friends despite some points of conflict.

Thank you Great Britain! Thank you Harlow! Thank you McGrath!

I remember the frightening days of WWII and I have every hope that our common sense of human decency that we share will abide in the days to come. We are all going to be sorely tried. (again)
