26 Sep 02 - 09:09 AM (#791675) Subject: CD Release! Roll & Go From: Naemanson Well, it's finally here. It has been 3 years in the making but Roll & Go is now releasing their first CD, Outward Bound. If you want to get a taste of what is on it you can check out the .mp3 files on our web site at www.rollandgoseasongs.com. Click here If you are further intrigued enough to want a copy for yourself just contact Charlie Ipcar (aka, Mudcatter Charlie Noble) from the website. He will be glad to take your check and send you a copy for your very own. I will try to carry copies with me when I go to Portsmouth this weekend if anyone local cannot wait for Charlie to get home from the left coast. Brett Removed space from URL. Spaces bad. --M. 26 Sep 02 - 09:37 AM (#791696) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: MMario Will anyone be heading down to the Getaway weekend? |
26 Sep 02 - 10:30 AM (#791730) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: Naemanson Thanks for the repair, M. Joeclone. I'm toying with the idea of going down to FSGW but money is short. I need to get through September before I can make that decision. If I go I can bring a pile of CD's with me. What is the wit and wisdom on trying to sell things at FSGW. I don't want to tread on anyone's toes or create and odor in anyone's nose. |
26 Sep 02 - 10:41 AM (#791741) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: MMario Ask on the getaway thread. I am pretty sure there were a couple people selling cd's last year. |
26 Sep 02 - 11:18 AM (#791767) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Charlie, is there a list of all the songs on it? |
26 Sep 02 - 11:32 AM (#791775) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: curmudgeon Well done Brett. Now why don't you post this info on the Portsmout MFF thread and let folks know where they can find you there to get a CD. And just where is Charlie? In the beginning of his cross-country threads he allowed as how he'd be joining us this weekend.. See you Saturday -- Tom |
26 Sep 02 - 11:54 AM (#791796) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: radriano Roll & Go's cd "Outward Bound" is nicely done. Lovely artwork on the cover too. |
26 Sep 02 - 12:52 PM (#791848) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: dick greenhaus Last year, at the Getaway, Folk-Legacy and Camsco were selling CDs. This year, it'll only be Camsco. If you want CAMSCO to handle the CD, please let me know. |

27 Sep 02 - 12:09 PM (#792437) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: Naemanson EBarnacle: This is indeed the CD Charlie is carrying with him. Tom: I will mention it on the Portsmouth thread. George Seto: Here are the songs.

28 Sep 02 - 01:17 PM (#793048) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: Charley Noble Brett and I will definately be bringing down a cargo of these special "coasters" to the Portsmouth Festival of Sail this Sunday. Be nice to get some review comments from those who have already had a chance to listen to our pre-release version, rather than tooting our own horn. Remember, it's the only CD that you'll likely find "Yangtse River Shanty" recorded for at least another year-then everyone will be doing it! Find out why if you don't already know, or you could search on Mudcat for an old thread with the words "Yangtse River." Cheerily, Charley Noble |

29 Sep 02 - 06:57 PM (#793672) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: katlaughing Wow! Listening to the mp3 of Yangtse River...bee-you-tee-full song and what a powerful, wonderful voice, which one of you is it? Beautifully arranged, too. I've just added it to my list to get next payday. Thanks and congratulations!! kat |
29 Sep 02 - 08:04 PM (#793705) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: Charley Noble Thanks, Kat! That's Dick Dufresne leading "Yangtse River" with the robust voice. I did the arrangement and the reworking from a song composed in the 1920's by Hamish Maclaren for the sailor's folk opera SAILOR WITH BANJO. We, with the help of Barry and others, are returning the song to the tradition where it never existed. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

29 Sep 02 - 11:33 PM (#793793) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: wysiwyg (aside) On Shackleton's Antarctic expedition (1915???), when they got stuck on the ice and had lost their ship, the crew were each given a 2-lb. limit on personal gear over and above clothes on their backs and an extra pair of socks. Except for the fella who had kept them all sane (???!!??) during the Antarctic winter aboard ship, who had brought what they called a zither-banjo. He was ordered to bring it along. Musta been all Mudcatters from Maine. They turned the ordeal into a Mudcat Gathering. ~Susan |
29 Sep 02 - 11:54 PM (#793800) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: Uncle Jaque I'll be investing on one of those R&G "coasters", for sure - if for nothing else than to make sure that we're all on the same page (and starting off on the same key and singing the same lyrics) at the next Portland Shanty-Hoot! And aye, Mates; as one who has sat across the circle from big Dave Dufresne as he belts out "Yangtse River", I'll vouch fer it; it's a bully-grand pile-driver of a Shanty! |

31 Oct 02 - 07:22 AM (#815060) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: Sandra in Sydney Well, I never, Charley So there I was scrolling down the threads vaguely thinking I must look for this thread & there it was. Did you refresh it cos I said I'd have to look for it? I am once again listening to my new CD. Not a bad album - lots of songs I know, some I don't - well worth swapping a mate's CD cos of the astonomical cost of getting a bank cheque. When are you putting out your next CD - then I could send you Danny's other CD! When will you be back again? In time to join our shanty singers in Feb?? sandra |
31 Oct 02 - 08:38 AM (#815103) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: Charley Noble Sandra- Of course we refresh these special threads for our friends from down under-just another service of Roll & Go, Inc. And it's about time some of you folks visited us in Maine; check out the shanty swap thread at "China Sea Marine Trading" in Portland and join us on 11/23. We're still trying to provoke our nephew into setting a date for an after the wedding celebration in Oz for himself and his new bride, and we are insisting that that date overlap with a 4th Saturday so we can explore the wonders of the Loaded Dog. With regard to our new CD, we can e-mail lyrics and more extended notes for any of the songs folks are interested in. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

03 Nov 02 - 12:05 PM (#817451) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: Charley Noble Just an update on what we've been up to. This weekend five of us caravaned 4 hours up to Houlton, Maine, where Brett spent years growing up, for a concert at their UU Church. Twas a little scary as we crossed the County line and plowed into a major snow squall but we somehow made it to the old Burnham homestead, then whipped into town to set up the lights and sound system in the magnificent old sanctuary-lovely wood beamed ceiling and paneling. And sure enough, about a hundred folks showed up and after persistent coaching helped raise the roof on the choruses and refrains. A really smashing evening, and we even sold a dozen CD's (which is why I'm posting this blurb). The Church members were very pleased, as we divided the gate 50:50 with them after their expenses. We spent the night at the Burnham homestead, finally getting a chance to enjoy the lovely pasta meal Brett's parents had prepared for us, listening to his father's stories and finally dropping into our respective beds around 1 PM. Blasted out of the house after coffee and muffins by 7 AM and now I'm sitting at home again thinking about lunch. This sea music thing can be a whole lot of fun! Cheerily, Charley Noble, off the road again |
03 Nov 02 - 04:57 PM (#817682) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: GUEST,wdyat24 Thanks Brett, You guys and gals sound great on Roll&Go. Maggie and I especially liked Roll&Go and Farewell to Nova Scotia. I guess because that is what we were doing on our honeymoon in Nova Scotia. wdyat24 |
03 Nov 02 - 07:56 PM (#817770) Subject: RE: CD Release! Roll & Go From: Charley Noble Wdyat 24- Thanks for the kind words. You probably are referring to the 1st track "Randy Dandy-O" which has "roll & go" in the chorus, and we're pleased to hear you and your new bride were doing some of "that" in your visit to Nova Scotia...;~) "Farewell to Nova Scotia" we learned from a discussion we helped initiate on Mudcat was originally based on a Scottish Napoleonic era poem entitled "The Soldier's Adieu" by Robert Tannahill (1774-1810).
