Hi, Mr. Happy - apparently, the title of the song is Home Sweet Home (click), Words by John Howard Payne, music by Henry Rowley Bishop, 1823. When you use the blue DigiTrad search box, put a phrase from the song in square brackets. It's usually better to search for a distinctive phrase from the song, not just the title. [ever so humble] brings it right up.
The Digitrad and Forum Search (SuperSearch) doesn't need barckets for phrase searches.

From: Nigel Parsons

Again a parody heard at Scout campfires circa 1960:

The corporation muck cart
Was full up to the brim.
The driver fell in backwards,
Too bad he could not swim.
He sank right to the bottom,
Just like a little stone.
And as he sank he gurgled
"There's no place like home!"

There's a song "The Man Who Wrote Home Sweet Home Never Was A Married Man" by Charlie Parker With Mark Woolbright (Columbia 15236 - D, February 1928). The recording is HERE (Honkingduck). The lyrics are in the DT.

Masato,

We play and sing "Home Sweet Home" with different lyrics. I call them the bluegrass version. I know two different sets of lyrics one is from Neil Griffin's Banjo Book and the other we did on our last CD, Farther Along.

I've been putting lyrics on my siteClick here
for several months. Our version is there.

Masato, you really know the internet sites. You are also a very helpful info dispenser. Thanks.

In your honor I think I'll sing your Japanese lyrics at our next performance. And they say Charlie Poole is hard to understand!

Thanks, Richie. Incidentally, Cajun version of "Home Sweet Home" by Breaux Freres is on Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music (disc 3, track 12) [with sound clip].

Masato,

Great version. I think we'll need Stewie to translate that one!

Subject: Lyr Add: HE SANG A SONG OF HOME SWEET HOME (Gill)
From: Jim Dixon

There are several songs that seem to be sequels, "answer" songs, or at any rate, songs that quote from or allude to the earlier song HOME SWEET HOME. Here's one of them:

From the sheet music at The National Library of Australia:

HE SANG A SONG OF HOME! SWEET HOME!
Words and music by A. T. Gill
London: East London Printing Co.; Melbourne: Star Music Stores, [189-?]

1. Far away on Australian shore beneath a foreign clime,
Some miners sat all round a camp. it was nigh on Christmas time.
Each spoke in turn of travels and how they loved to roam,
When the talking had ceased, they called on a pard to sing to remind them of home.

CHORUS: And he sang a song of Home Sweet Home that touched each miner's heart.
It made them all think of England and home, wife, mother or fond sweetheart.
It was not such a new song, but admitted a true song, and richly in facts it did gloam.
He sang that old ditty, tho' weird strangely pretty, the dear song of Home Sweet Home.

2. The miners listened to the song, and the thoughts of home came clear.
It made them think when they'd return to clasp whom they found dear.
Their hard hearts were melted as they sang the sweet refrain.
With tears in their eyes, they asked the singer to sing them the old song again.

Subject: Lyr Add: S.Y.D.N.E.Y. SPELLS HOME SWEET HOME TO ME
From: Jim Dixon

From the sheet music at The National Library of Australia:

S.Y.D.N.E.Y. SPELLS HOME SWEET HOME TO ME
Words and music by Lew Dunn
Sydney: Clay's Programs, [192-?]
"Sung with terrific success by Clay's 25 Whizz-Bangs"

1. I've travel'd this world, you bet,
But I've seen nothing yet
Ahead of this great town.
I've seen old Gay Paree,
England and Germany,
Whose sights are great but ours are renowned,
So while this world does turn,
While you're away you'll yearn.
To come back again and sing with feeling—

CHORUS: Sydney Town, Sydney Town,
You're the best place that I know
On Sunday afternoon
Just see those couples spoon,
Manly Beach or Watson's Bay
And round at Coogee all the day,
Oh, Take me there. Take me there. Those places just suit me.
S–Y-D-N-E-Y spells Home Sweet Home to me.

2. I always was so sad,
But today I feel so glad,
'Cause I'm back in my hometown.
They can have their Tennessee,
Caroline or Waikiki.
Those places that are known by great renown,
So should you ever roam,
Far away from home,
You'll come back again and sing, as I am— CHORUS

First I noticed that there were several songs that referred to (alluded to, mentioned, quoted, etc.) the song HOME SWEET HOME, and I thought it might be fun to transcribe them and post them here. I did a couple of songs, and then I began to wonder how many more I had to do.

Next, I thought I'd better just compile a list of those songs.

Whoa! Little did I realize how many there are! After working on this list for several hours, I'm still not finished, and I don't have a very good idea of how many more hours it would take to finish. So I'm calling a halt for the time being.

So far, I've only checked 3 web sites that have a lot of sheet music: Indiana University, The Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music, and The Library of Congress (LoC). Those are the biggest ones, but there are still lots of smaller ones.

Here are my results so far.
