I think we need an insult generator like Wincing Devil's, but one that would say things like "Get off the stage ya ugly no-talent chicken molester", or "Put that banjo where the sun don't shine ya obnoxious addle-brained old burnout". Better than smiley faces. |

03 Oct 02 - 11:24 AM (#796189) Subject: RE: BS: Whaddya think of Mudcat's new look? From: Mudlark As I am wary of change, Mudcat has kindly allowed me to stay with the old version. Last night, after reading a thread and going back to the Forum, it surprised me with the new format....whoa! Looks great. This morning, I'm back to the old look again...which is also great. Ever sensitive to our needs, Mudcat is apparently easing me into new format gently and I am deeply appreciative. |
03 Oct 02 - 11:58 AM (#796211) Subject: RE: BS: Whaddya think of Mudcat's new look? From: Mudlark Hmmmm...feeling adventuresome, I cleared my cache and rebooted and I've still got the old Shorty. Not that I'm complaining, mind. It seems to be doing line breaks and that was the only thing that bothered me about the old Mudcat. I'm just always glad to see that catfish/banjo... |

03 Oct 02 - 12:25 PM (#796228) Subject: RE: BS: Whaddya think of Mudcat's new look? From: pattyClink We love it. But still puzzled by the keeping of the "New as of Dec. 16, '01" blurb about the calendar. Makes the site look like it's been dead for a year. Yes, we want to promote the calendar, but that date has turned into a negative rather than a positive thing. |
03 Oct 02 - 03:20 PM (#796324) Subject: RE: BS: Whaddya think of Mudcat's new look? From: Glade The old Mudcat was easy to use. So far I'm finding the new Mudcat easy to use too. It's a nice look; I'm glad you kept the photo of Robert Johnson. I don't do much more than check the Lyrics Database and the new threads so I'm not qualified to say anything about the more technical aspects. Horns and fangs would be neat about this time of year, doncha think? And tits are always appropriate, especially along with cunts and pricks. No arseholes, please, there are always more than enough of those about, especially here. I put my fist through a door this morning because of the corruption and sleaze factor around here. Glade |

Can't figure out why the Forum's new title in the menu bar is "Lyrics & Knowledge", though. I'd thought that "forum" was a pretty well accepted and well understood term across the internet to define what it is we're posting to, here. Hah, maybe it's a sly attempt to keep away agnostics (literally, "not knowable" or "not of knowledge")! ;^) |

Or Gargoyle. Who needs a cyber-badmouther when ya got the real thing? *G* Here's what I like/love about the New Mudcat, so far: ¥ Much faster to PM people -- fewer steps ¥ "Preview" option for posts is great. ¥ Automatic line breaks option is great -- as long as you remember to UN-check the box it your post already has the HTML code in it! ¥ The option of deleting PMs, not just archiving them. ¥ The "related threads" at the top of threads. I used to spend a lot of time searching for related threads, for myself and to help answer other folks' requests for info; now that info is already there. Great! So far, I'm very delighted with the new look! Genie |

04 Oct 02 - 08:21 AM (#796750) Subject: RE: BS: Whaddya think of Mudcat's new look? From: Wolfgang The most valuable new feature in my eyes is that if you click on a name you get the list of postings in chunks of 200 and don't have to wait for up to 10 minutes. So if I recollect who a poster was and that it was in the last four weeks I actually can refind it in a short time. Wolfgang |

It may be my imagination, but it seems to load a lot faster, and I especially like the "Preview" feature. I do agree with Bee-dubya-ell that the PM alert could be bigger and more noticeable. I just about missed one a couple days ago. Other than that, peachy-keen! Good work, guys 'n' gals! Don Firth |

From: Snuffy Just managed to get in on the new cat, and finally found it, but it's really tiny and inconspicuous and tucked away where you'd never think of looking. 08 Oct 02 - 04:31 AM (#798741) Subject: RE: BS: Whaddya think of Mudcat's new look? From: Nigel Parsons Improvements ? YES! I like the thread splitter, although I missed it at first. I could see that all long threads had the number of posts clickable, but it wasn't immediately obvious to click there to get a splittable thread. Also I note that if you do click on the number it doesn't mark the thread title as read. But, what the hey! GREAT! I like it Nigel |
08 Oct 02 - 09:02 PM (#799224) Subject: RE: BS: Whaddya think of Mudcat's new look? From: McGrath of Harlow Every now and again it freezes, and then I open up through shorty and it's not frozen, and it's the old Mudcat - but I imagine that's teething troubles. What I'd find handy would be to be able to adjust the default on split threads so that they opened up with the most recent one rather than with the first. (I wouldn't be surprised to find out we've got that facility already, in which case someone tell me how to operate it.) |
08 Oct 02 - 09:13 PM (#799229) Subject: RE: BS: Whaddya think of Mudcat's new look? From: Bill D I wondered about that..(being able to go directly to the newest part of the threads)...but "sort descending" doesn't even work unless you do the whole thread...(fortunately, it isn't a big problem for me..) perhaps there are technical reasons....and I suspect that the upgrade is far from complete |
09 Oct 02 - 02:01 PM (#799632) Subject: RE: BS: Whaddya think of Mudcat's new look? From: Wolfgang Beside all the praise for what is new and better let us not forget to complain loudly for all what is still missing: (1) A marker on all those lyrics request threads that Sorcha has already posted to it (so I know that if the song could be found at all on the web it has been linked to already) (2) A marker on all those song background threads that Malcolm or Masato have already been involved (so I know that I don't have to look into my songbooks for there's nothing left I could add) (3) A marker on all threads started by John from Hull (perhaps the word 'local' in red colour as a warning so I...I think I'll skip that part) (4) A renewable marker on all politics threads each time McGrath has posted (for when I haven't much time his are often the only posts I read with care) (5) A marker on each thread that...has posted (so I know that the thread is useless for any serious purpose from now on) (6) A marker on each guitar thread that Rick has posted (for before that moment I'd rather not open it) (7) A general-purpose name-adjustable marker ready for any type of threads (so I could for instance have set that marker to 'only blink if Joe Offer posts' in the Joe Offer birthday thread, for the only thing that did interest me in that thread was: would he and if yes, how) Wolfgang |
