When my kids were little, I wrote a song using the names of cats. We had a friend with a cat named Pushkin, and this is the verse I wrote for him: "Old Uncle Pushkin Shaves the whiskers on his chin Combs his moustache with a spoon He's as crazy as a loon." Jerry |

21 Oct 02 - 05:55 PM (#808110) Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new member Pushkin!!! From: Genie Welcome to the cat house,Pushkin! Mousethief's allusion to your being the "...most famous person of colour in the history of all the Russias..." reminds me of an incident I heard of recently where "political correctness" ran a bit amok. It seems that someone in the US wanted to make the point that the Russian author Pushkin was black, but wanted to use acceptable 21st C. US terminology, so he/she said, something like, "...by the way, the writer Puskin was an African-American." If you're on the other side of the Atlantic, perhaps you are not so much plagued with linguistic hurdles of this sort? Jerry R., I've always thought "Pushkin" would be a great name for a cat. Now we all have a "cat" with that name. :-D Genie |

22 Oct 02 - 11:13 AM (#808541) Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new member Pushkin!!! From: Jimmy C Welcome aboard "Puskin". I once sailed on the brand new U.S.S.R vessel "Alexander Puskin", from London to Montreal, the first commercial trip it made after her maiden voyage. It was my first contact with anything Russian. On that trip I discovered russian guitars had seven strings. I still have some menues and the little hammer and sickle flag from the captain's table, he gave it to me as a souvenir after I had played a few tunes on the banjo for him and other officers. He had heard of a banjo but had never actually held one. I found them to be very friendly people and all quite musical. Unfortunately the ship sank years later off the coast of Cuba. 23 Oct 02 - 01:45 AM (#809082) Subject: RE: BS: Welcome new member Pushkin!!! From: Pushkin Hiya I'm on the outskirts of London. Our local council cannot decide if it's Kent or London! I work for a law firm on Bond Street (which is no way glamourous). Ally McBeal it's not although there are a number of people that dress like her. I like most types of music (I've even come to like Heavy Metal thanks to the auspices of my other half who's insane) I'm not keen on rap. Have just discovered Rammstein and Concrete Blonde. Love the sound of the mandolin except when I'm playing it. The one type of music that's guaranteed to make me smile is Ska. Pushkin |
