BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints

22 Oct 02 - 11:22 AM (#808550)
Subject: BS: MYSTERY SANTA GOOFY HINTS
From: catspaw49

Okay, now that we all have our Santees, here's a thread for all of us to play Santa and log back in anonymously and give our Santees some mysterious clues as to who their Santa might be.......Or if you are sneaky enough you can reamain known and give some real weird hints.......like I might say that MY Santee is fairly well known, was recruited by a very well known member and is interested in things down under.......but doesn't actually live in Oz. But I could go anonymous and use the Santee's name and say something different. Your choice.....Have FUN!!!

Well, dearie. This Santa is safe because you'll never guess! Neh-vah, neh-vah, neh-vah! (insert maniacal santa laugh here) You'd better be a "nice" little 'Catter and fill out your hints, or Santa will be left to his/her own devices. (now the reindeer are laughing maniacally too)

Not to be confused with Giok's Secret Santa...

I have read your hints. But tell me, what do you consider "really good tea"? Do you drink tea often? Do you enjoy tea-drinking paraphernalia? Are you a tea-totaler? ;-)

My part of the world is probably not too different from your part of the world... maybe...

Ah, my lovely Santa --

I drink tea every day, and even as we type. By "good tea" I mean tea that tastes good hot, and makes me go "mmmmmmmm" when I sip it. I'm certainly not an expert on teas, but yes, I do tote tea (making me a tea-totaler), just in case folks I visit don't keep it on hand (barbarians). I'm all in favor of paraphernalia.

Please hint.

I don't know much about you (though you know less about me, hahahaha), so give me some hints darlin'! Otherwise you may end up with a big ol' sack of coal. And I assume that wouldn't exactly be what you most want for Christmas. As soon as hints are in, Hezekiah and Ananais will be sent out searching. H and A are, of course, elves on staff here at the North Pole. Their mission in life is to find you a present, and you certainly wouldn't want to deny them the pleasure of fulfilling their mission in life, now would you? So please, make my little elves happy and help 'em along a bit.

Eagerly awaiting hints,
Santa Claus

I see you've been a good girl and posted your hints already, so no coal for you! Santa will have to put something especially nice in the ol' sleigh for you this year.

I won't tell you who I am just yet but I will give you a little hint -- we have shared something all my life but not all your life!

Well, Tig moves to the "nice" list,
She posted her hints quick.
She's got herself an ouchie,
So Firecat did the trick.
Santa's sympathetic,
So don't you feel alone.
An icy wreck last winter
Broke Santa's collarbone!
No laughing, 'cause it hurts a bunch,
Just make a pot of tea.
Rest yourself, get well real soon,
A giftie is coming from me.

Sugar? Sometimes, but sometimes I drink it "straight" and sometimes I put in a bit of honey. Loose, bagged, whatever. If you are a tea drinker, I'll like what you like. If you're not a tea drinker, I'll still like whatever you come up with. I'm easy. You aren't bound by the tea thing, either. I'd be just as happy with anything -- long's it's not pink. **G** ~;o)

So you like bears, do you? It is bear-ly within my scope to obtain bearish items, but I don't want to be overbearing.

I know where there's a stuffed bear, but, standing on its hind feet, the thing is pretty tall and I don't think the postal services would be up for bearing it that far South. Oh, you said "small is beautiful". Well, bear up, I'll think of something bearly recognizable.

Can't tease you very long, as your Santa surprise has to be in the mail by Nov. 6. Better slog out to the sled and get beary busy.

So let's see...I have a five-kilogram silver necklace in the shape of an accordion...no? I have some Trance CDs. Hmmmm...ok, ok, don't get impatient! Autographed napkin from Vlad the Impaler? No, no, not quite the right thing at all. Worn out elf-boots? No, you're too good for that.

Oh, well. Let me just duck around back to the 'shop, there, dearie. I am sure we'll find something you'll like!!

Hey, bro,
Other than that you're a Canuck and probably a boy Cat, I have no info on you at all. I don't even know how to peruse posts you may have made, since I've never come across one (that I could "click" on).

Now, I can be pretty imaginative, but it would help to know if you're closer to 8 or 80 and a bit more about you.

No rush. As Kat reminds us, it's not even Halloween yet. But can you post some kind of hint(s) here one of these weeks?

Let's see, you said kilogram--does that mean you're not US? Or are you just trying to throw me off the scent? And what's with the "A" at the bottom of the post? Force of habit, possibly, or another ploy? Hmmmm....perhaps such guesses are better left until after I finish that history paper.

Sweetie,

In this world of Naughty Lists and Nice Lists, "smart ass" is definitely assigned to the former. Now ... the Elves are up for this. They tell me, "Hey Santa. He wants to do smart ass - WE can DO smart ass." I'll try to keep them 'on message' (season of good will, peace on earth, yadda yadda yadda) but keep your fingers crossed. They get a bit crazy during the countdown ...

Luv ya anyway,

Full blooded female   ......Hmmm, I see, very interesting (pauses for thought!)

Sea-green blue and "winter" ...and NOT pastels (duly noted!)

Idiot's guides ...well Cat could not have chosen more of an idiot Santa to guide you! Ethnomusicology (note...consult dictionary) and cooking. Well as the owner of 135 cookbooks I may be able to trump you there!

would certainly give houseroom to anything (CD) by a Mudcatter ...are you sure you know what you're letting yourself in for? Even from this Mudcatter maybe?!!!

a teashirt for bed... ...(strokes chin thoughtfully!)

do you collect anything? ...I could certainly supply the cookbooks and dust!

pottery, embroidery, crochet, gardening, incredibly bad instrument playing ...well we have different hobbies but not a bad list to stimulate the nerve cells!

silver ...but no rings or bracelets or southerly pierced things (makes interesting mental note!)

something that reflects the Santa and well as the Santee, something that is local to Santa, or even handmade ...what luck to have such an "open" and appreciative Santee and I think I could oblige on any or even all of these fronts with a bit of imagination!

not smellies or calendars ...duly noted!

Dear sian, ...it will be a real pleasure to be your Secret Santa and your helpful tints and hips mean that I will undoubtedly devote my own time to this rather than leave it to my useless elves!

Your Secret (Celtic-blooded) Santa!!!

How many days to Christmas?????

Dear Secret Santa:

Of course I believe in Christmas... I also believe in Ramadan. I mean, there is no deny these observations exist, after all. And I also have no moral objections to their existance.

I just don't celebrate them, personally. I celebrate the Winter Solstice... hurrah for the brand new light, and all that.

As for believing in Santa, well, I have a book right here on my desk entitled Santa Claus, Last of the Wild Men: The Origins and Evolution of Saint Nicholas, Spanning 50,000 Years. With a track record like that, I'd say Santa is more believable than 99.9999995% of the ordinary humans I know. ;-)

Santa always makes a list
Then he checks it twice.
Not that the ol' bloke's gone Type-A
He just wants to be precise.
YOUR Santa thought to do the same
An' keep the holiday spirit true
So by checking with some UK elves
Santa's got the goods on YOU!
I've been told you're keen and lots of fun
A regular wunnerful gal
An' when you're on the piss (and must take one as well)
You should probably take 'long a pal.
Then you'll have someone to shove out in front
When arse over teakettle you spin
So that with any luck, you'll land on THEM
An' not risk your sweet neck again.
So keep Santa's advice close to your heart
True gems like that never fail.
Christmas is coming, your prezzie is too,
But please watch your step, not the mail.

What does my ren costume look like? what colour? uhmmm - brown, blue, green, black, red, tan, purple, murrey depending on the day. I'm a peasant - nothing matches...baggy pants and a peasant shirt - unless its a peasant shirt and tights.

"Owain" - MMy alter-ego (the apprentice for 35 years - he who carries a tune in a bucket - barely; the pre-minstrel Owain Cramp) tends to wear the same - but he carries a wooden bucket which MMario does not.

Rats-don't do this too often.

Age-note reference to Albatross; also Divers and Owls. Quoth the Raven: "nevermore."

Gender-I'd bet Cat knows best.

Favorite Colour-scruffy. Is that light scruffy or dark scruffy? Sounds like a sagey-sorta colour.

Authors/books-Ah ha!! Celtic mythology is it? And would that be Keltic or Seltic? Settle for Dine' if you're wise.

Books desired-what the heck kind of answer is "see above"-clearly a bureaucrat at heart.

T-shirt size-only XL? Have you noticed that male Mudcatters prefer smaller t-shirts than females?

Collectables-how about post cards?

Hobbies-sounds like a reasonable collection. Ever try prickly-pear or dandilion wine? If not, don't.

Jewelery-yeah, ok, spoilsport.

Other stuff-whatever.

After all, I know absolutely nothing about you except you went to med school in Hershey, PA, sing Irish songs, have a 7 year old daughter, had recent knee surgery, miss Moxie and you're not a Republican. Oh, and that both you and I are Diana Rigg fans and you're my younger brother's age.

How do I know all this? Well, "we master spies have our sources -- in this case it happens to be the front page of the New York Times" (or, more specifically, The Mudcat Puddle).

That was supposed to say "cookie" and not "cook". It has been a while since I tried this cookie-less thread-posting lark.

So, thanks to hey-diddle-diddle, Ms CatsPhiddle, the Fiery-cat from the 'Cat has a Secret Santa. A very studious SS who has studied FC's postings including peeking at her pix (after some scathingly brilliant lateral thinking on the photos page) and examining familial and social relationships within our 'Cat community. Even compared this year's and last year's SS hints for good measure.
[Let me know if last year's hints are out of date (these young-un's grow up so fast these days!)]

So now the challenge is to put together an appropriately interesting, hopefully surprising package and give it to the elves to deliver. Maybe over land, maybe over sea, maybe through the air. Maybe from nearby, maybe from afar.

I was a good girl last year and waited until Christmas Day (technically – hey, it was after midnight, so it was official!) to open my pressie. Wonder if I can muster up the same fortitude this time!

OK, OK...you figured out that I don't want an autographed picture of the Bush family. But you see, the problem is that as soon as I give a hint, I'll immediately think, "Well, I really don't like that as much as I like those 25 other things..." I know, that doesn't help. What I'd REALLY like is a turntable that works, and a CD burner...but I'm NOT asking for those. I do have a CD player, and in addition to the kind of music they play on Folkscene.com I also like jazz (smooth, not raucous), klezmer, "world" (like the Putumayo series), fingerstyle guitar, and anything with vocal harmonies, from shape notes to shanties to swing. I even like Gregorian chants (I know, they don't have harmonies). I like songbooks, music books, photography books, travel books, natural history books, history books, just about any books except for Danielle Steele novels, old maps, games, carved wood, interesting music-makers (in Disneyland I found a wooden frog from Vietnam that makes a very froglike sound when you rub it's serrated back with a stick) and "scientific" toys like kaleidoscopes and prisms and such. Edibles are good, though they have a tendency to disappear...and I don't eat any parts of anything that used to walk. Or fruitcake. And, as I said, something that is unique to your area would be preferable....unless you live in Las Vegas, I suppose. Now maybe you can be creative and surprise me! And Thank you, very much indeed.

Aloha,
Mark

Now, I must ask Giac another question. What sort of hot peppers is it you like to raise? When I used to have time for gardening, I had very good luck with several kinds. They grow well in my climate.

Dear Secret Santa: earlier, you asked:

Question is, do you believe in Santa?

Did my answer meet with your satisfaction? I hope so... I'm really not in this game for all the fancy (or unfancy, for that matter) prezzies, but I would like a little something, to keep me company through the long winter ahead... even just a note, or a PM.... So I don't feel quite so much like The Little Prince until the flowers bloom again...

I hope this doesn't make me sound pitiful, but it's been gray, and rainy and cold here for the last couple of days, and will be so for a couple of days more, according to the weather personaliities on the news, and I guess it's just seeping into my pores....

Hate to interrupt, Santas, but, uh, to answer MY SS's questions:

If you are a fan of Keeping Up Appearances, as am I, then you will understand when I say I am not unlike Hyacinth's neighbor, Elizabeth, when she is in Hyacinth's presence. I'd need a beaker, dearie, not the royal (whatever) with the hand-painted periwinkles.

As for peppers, this year I had great success with cayennes, jalapenos, and some smaller peppers of the chili type that were labeled only "from Thailand." And those, the locals here would note, were righteous-hot. For some reason, habeneros do not do well in my garden. Just as well, although they do make a good paint stripper.

Bloody Mary !!!! Evil Twin !!!! Indeed. MuwaaaaaHaaaaHA!

To my SS on the other side of the pond,

I want you to know that I will appreciate whatever you choose - the more you like it, and the more that it says about you, the better. The hint about purple is aimed at making it easier if you have to choose between different colours. But I'm sure you know that already. I'm sure that you are just teasing.

That isn't to deny the fact that I do have a purple addiction, though. At the supermarket one day I saw a little girl excitedly telling her mother about a purple water bottle, or something equally mundane, that she had found on the shelves. I wanted to quietly warn the mother that purple-addiction doesn't get milder over time, but in fact gets more acute. I catch myself sometimes getting just as excited over little, silly things which I don't need, and have no earthly use for, that just happen to be a lovely shade of purple.

Hear Me, Oh Hear Me, my tastes and handle have changed over time. Though always a beginner of the traditional, I am a master of the non-musical. Can you guess who I am?

I'm not living where I'm from, but enjoy where I am. Look for the epicenter and I'll be close at hand. I look into the mists of the future, and help people on their way. PM me today!

I'm gathering stuff for my visit. I do have a question though. What are your feelings concerning the use of MP3's downloaded from the internet. All dead and gone or out-of-print for though I look to the future my heart is in the past.

Purportedly from Katlaughing's Santa Claus,
It's a load of bollocks and I know because
I'm it, they're not, and that's my final word.

Except to propose this before quitting
A hypothesis worth submitting:
Due to Polar over-staffing
Two Santas are assigned to Katlaughing,
She's a good girl by twice; its fitting.

Neither a varlet nor a harlot, thank you very much, Amos, nor a Santa dreary, one hopes. Mudlark, thou hast need of patience. Just because Walmart has had their Christmas decorations up for a month doesn't mean your SS is a dud if you haven't received a gift (or hint) yet. Worldwide web means your SS could be anywhere in the world, and it might take a while to get back to cyberspace.

Also, being a first time SS, your SS still learning the etiquette and expectations of this august position.

Since discovering that Mudlark is the person to whom gifts are to be given, your SS has been researching the elusive Mudlark, to better prepare for what's to come. The first part is the reading of all of Mudlark's posts to discover her how better to be her Santa - a labor worthy of Hercules! That woman posts a lot more frequently than her SS. What has been discoverd by this dedicated research? (1)She likes garden fresh cucumbers. Unfortunately, it's not cucumber season in her SS's garden. (2)She would rather sit on her porch and sing cowboy songs than attend a concert by a professional folksinger (an oxymoron if I ever heard one). Sounds reasonable to me. (3)Her real age, which, contrary to her SS hint is at least a decade away from crone-ism (and within 15 years of her SS's age, one way or the other.)

So have no fear; your SS is busy preparing more than coal for your stocking.

(He prefers to "sing" in the hallway, all through the night long when I'm trying to sleep!)

A big mouse? Is this a clue???

Hmmm... my Santa said (s)he was at work... at 2:30 in the morning, Mudcat time (US Eastern Standard Time)... so either (s)he works a graveyard shift in the US or has a day job across the pond... but which pond???? Oooh, mysteries are so... so... mysterious!

Dear Mooman,

Some ill-mannered and vaguely insulting person has been impersonating me. I am your true SECRET SANTA, and I hope you will disregard the oafish remarks made above. Sir, I have perused the hints you provided to our dear benefactor, Ms. CatPiddle, er, CatPhizzle, well, you know who I mean. I will deliver unto you a gift specifically designed to fit both your tastes and your social station. However, I hasten to add that you would be unwise to unwrap said present in the presence of others, and absolutely do not wait to Christmas, it really must eat with 4 days of mailing. All the best...and ho ho ho and all that of course. Yours, Santa.

Ho-ho-ho-hello again Ms Firecat. Yesterday the elves found a lovely gift for you, which in some way matches one of the other two small gifts already in the sack with your name on it.

The elves were very very excited at finding this item because, even though it in no way corresponds to your hints, it seems to be a perfect match to the impressions that they have gained of you from your postings.

Apart from that, they love it themselves and they know that the very best gifts to give are the ones that they would want to keep for themselves, but know that there is much more to be gained from giving them to someone special.

There is still more to go in the sack before sending it off to you by reindeer-freight, but so far the elves are squabbling among themselves about the best one(s) to send.

When their fighting, and this elvish, high-pitched sqwawking ceases, then we may make some headway, but meanwhile.....

You've not been forgotten, sweet sister, and don't forget I have already looked up to find out how good you've been this year. Just because I have a shape doesn't mean I can't do my sums, and it seems to me you have passed with flying colours indeed.

I do hope new (but beautiful!) musical sounds are a source of delight to you, because the elves are insisting on trying out their latest composition -- Symphonium Gallerium, a composition for sixteen sauce pans, one moggie, and two tea kettles. It has a certain...shall I say...flavor to it?

Dear Nathan,

Annanias and Hezekiah are very excited and having lots of fun looking for a present for you. They are seriously considering something to do with this area. Sadly, they missed the Folklore Society Festival on Saturday. They had planned to look for a present there, but alas, circumstances did not permit. Progress has been slow. They are a little cold at the moment, being natives not of the North Pole but of California. They miss the sunny skies and the flowers that bloom until December. But they are coping nicely, and soon will become accustomed to the colder climate. It is so hard recruting people from elsewhere. But it must be done. It's so hard to get good help these days.

Dear Santa:

Roger that, good buddy -=- the boys down at Lindbergh field will be looking for you, but the want you to know they usually stock JP fuel, not alfalfa hay or bermuda neither. So hard to say what they'll be able to come up with. If you prefer, feel free to land those suckers in my back yard (flaps on hard, it isn't very long!) and they can mow the lawn for me -- I'll leave it growing special!!

Thanks for the grins, mate!!

Thankyou Santa - maybe in the new year you can add your bear stories. Or maybe you can write them down & pop them in wth my pressie. Then there would be even more bears in my place (I've only got 800 or so)

I notice you posted minutes after I did - it was near midnight here (it is again)- were you waiting for me to pop my head out of my cave?   I hope you haven't been waiting long but I got home from a concert far too late to log on last night.

No, I wasn't waiting for you, just have that Santa Radar that tells me when you post, so I can respond.

Bear stories? Now you want bear stories? Sheesh! Well, okay, I'll see what I can do about that, but if those bears wake up while I'm writing ... . I guess I can send more elves, but your pressie may be late. Just remember, it's your own fault.

Come on Santa! Give me a break here. Everybody else (mostly) has gotten several useful hints, and all I get is some old cartoon dialog. I've given my Santee enough that she/he should be able to guess everything except my hat size (5 1/4, by the way).

Well, Mr. Brooks, I thought the whole point was that this was a Secret Santa game, and so I'm upholding my end... Besides, if I give away too many hints, I fear you'll not only guess who I am, but what you'll be getting...

Ooops! Now I've done it... I'll have to hire some operatives to throw some red herrings into your path...

Just one question: You say in your hints list that you like space opera. Do you prefer Verdi, Wagner, Rossini, or Gilbert and Sullivan?

Okay! So, I sent a fast-flying penguin (what do you MEAN penguins don't fly -- that one did after I booted it a good one) to catch the elves, to bring them back so I could stick some bear stories in the cage, but when I did, the bears woke up, then all hell broke loose.

Elves is kinda brickle. We lost one of 'em, but sent t'other one back home to regenerate (good thing about elves -- even if they's broke up considerable, long's they ain't dead, they'll grow back). Got a couple of fresh ones (younger ones that ain't quite so fragile), and tranq'ed the bears enough so's they'll stay out till after you get the whole package (I hope). But, just in case, you might want to have a sharp stick to poke 'em back, if they try to get out when you pull off the wrapper.

You ought to have an interesting Christmas, at least.

Your plum wore-out Santy.

hello, Santa

Sorry I haven't been on line for a while - too many late nights/early mornings. Friday I got to bed around 3 after a long night making a bear for a friend's 60th birthday - last night I handed it over & we had a great party. Dunno what the neighbours thought with all the singing till all hours! (ps. the bear was appreciated & has gone to a good home with several other bears.)

I can't thank you & the elves enough for all the trouble you are taking.

Hurry up Christmas, I can't wait to see my pressie!! Any penguins in the box (or a separate box?)

I've seen this thread going on and on but have not been able to translate or decipher it into anything clearly understandable. I take it to mean that there are those here who would like gifts from certain others here for the up and coming season (xmas) and they want to post hints to those from whom they wish to receive gifts from??? Is that close? Or is it the other way around? There are those here who wish to give gifts to others here and don't want to be known by doing so. Who chooses who to be the giver and/or the givee or receiver of said gifts? Is it mutual attraction, predetermined by numismatic ritual, spinning of a wheel or bottle, divine fate? Can we start over here and have someone post just what this is all about? Lay out the ground rules a little for those of us who are a little slow at this sort of thing. I take it that this has gone on before but I didn't see a link to a past thread to explain any of these questions. Or is it just suppose to be some kind of a big guessing game? Befuddled

Oh, I don't know quite what to do.
Last year, there was a compact disc
You craved... Now should I take the risk
That from last Christmas until this,
The CD is still one that's miss-
-ing from your shelf? Of course, I could
Just add the sales receipt, and should
You have the CD, there's no danger –
You can always go exchange 'er!
Then again, the safer thing
Might be to shop for gardening
Supplies... Cat figurines? They're cute...
Or puppets? Fielding's banjo mute?
Oh, ho ho ho... and hee hee hee...
You will get something soon from me!

The young Sorcha went riding out one dark and windy day
The Wyoming skies were rumbling as she went along her way
Then all a once a strange sight up in the sky she views
A santa in a sledge……… pulled by a team of gnus!!!
Yipee-i-yay, Yippeee-i-yo-ohhh Ghoste wildebeeste in the sky!!!!

Their eyes they flashed like lightning and there hot breath I could feel
Those jalepeno peppers that would make your blood congeal
They'd been eating Sorchas special, they had nothing left to loose
And thats the only eating …….that can Supercharge Gnus
Yipee-i-yay, Yippeee-i-yo-ohhh Ghoste wildebeeste in the sky!!!!

The sonic boom passed over as this strange rig passed from sight
I know where ere they're going it wont be a "silent night"
the purpose of this little song is to convey in Rhyme
That Sorchas Secret Santa is delivering on time
Yipee-i-yay, Yippeee-i-yo-ohhh Ghost wildebeeste in the sky!!!!

Ho, Ho, Ho, and a bottle of ... no wait - I've sent your present. Hopefully it will arrive by Christmas. It's in a box about so big, by so wide. It's brown (the box) and it has your address on it along with a Secret Santa note on the top. Or is that Santa's address and a Victoria's Secret on the box, in the box, um...

Ah hell, it's coming! Hope you like it!

Yippee!!!! My present arrived from Singapore!!! And it was exactly what I asked for and I am thrilled with it. Loved the stamps, loved the Robot Bug mailer box, wrapped round with official green Inspection Tape!!!, loved the note and most of all, loved the contents. Secret Santa, there is nothing that could have given me a bigger smile. I have shells from Hastings, shells from Spain, from Belize, from Hawaii as well as my own California coast, but none as treasured as these.

I know I should have waited until Christmas, but then, I never do. And besides, one side of the box was crushed a bit and it was necessary to examine contents for damage, right?

I am embarrassed to say that though you have given me such a huge hint, I am still at a loss to know who you are. Please, please put me out of my misery and tell me who was out on the beach picking up shells for me...the ones from the Phillipines are knockouts, and it delights me that the ones from your own local beach are much like common shells I pick up here every time I walk the tideline.

Muddie, dear, you're much too easy to please. The pebbles and shells are just to let you know I haven't forgotten you while my elves search the corners of the earth for your actual present. And it could be that the Singaporean shipment, rather than being a huge hint, is a ruse to keep you from knowing my actual geograpical location. Sometimes locations can be a clue as to Mudcat names, but not always. Keep smiling and keep watching your mailbox.

Bardford, me lad, you'll probably have a hard time guessing my my true identity, but here's a hint or two.

You probably would think I'm beneath you. (And you'd be right.)
But then, in at least one sense, I'm quite a bit ahead of you.
There was a time in my life when I was more like you (at least in one objective way) than I am now.

I have often found myself challenged since joining Mudcat a while back (but I always find some help from the immortals when that happens).
I can't say I can traverse the globe in a single night like my mentor from the North Pole, but I do get around quite a bit.
Mudcatters who were concerned with being dated may have seen more of me last year than they did of most other Mudcatters.

Your prezzie should be on its way sometime this week. I don't think you'll have trouble getting it B4 Christmas.

Well, Bardford, you're right on count one, wrong on count two.

But as to our similarity/difference, I was thinking of something more concrete. We once shared a sort of 'kinship,' I guess, but now we're neighbors of a sort.
(As for the intangibles, let's see who adores me: women? maybe (but I hope not exclusively). Children? Sometimes. Old people? Usually.
Violin/fiddle afficcionados? See above.

Okay, my benevolent and generous-with-the-clues Pere/Mere Noel, here's what I did: I took all the clues you've provided and created a FileMaker Pro database. Then I ran those clues through the Mudcat Thread history thesaurus analyzer/algoryhtm generator(its a new thing-I don't think even Max knows about it yet). Then armed with that information, I tapped into the Florida Voter List database random partisan de-registerer which results I then imported into my Itunes program and converted the whole dataset into an mp3 file. I haven't had a chance to listen to the results yet, but I will announce the results on this thread. (Likely around Christmas time.)

Hmmm, Ding Dongs are cupcakes. There's a current thread about Nibbling Cupcakes. Cupcakes are made by Hostess.. .

Good grief, Nathan. You are hilarious. You're getting close on me being either meek or bold and young or old, but I'm not a Ding Dong! Really, I'm not.
Well, it's pretty cold outside here, but there's no snow. I've never lived anywhere where it snowed before, and now I move here, fully expecting snow, but there's no snow. Egad. Will I never get to live with snow? I was so excited about it, too.
Anyway, your gift will probably be mailed tomorrow. Santa is a procrastinator. It's not entirely my fault, though. Hezekiah's wife insisted that he had to stay home to recover from his cold, leaving the already-overworked Ananias to do all the work, thus losing several days' progress. The important thing is that your present will arrive before Christmas. Here's another lyrical clue for you:

Ding dong merrily on high,
The Christmas bells are ringing
Ding dong verily the sky
Is riv'n with angel singing:
Gloria, hosanna in excelsis!
Gloria, hosanna in excelsis!

It's here! I went to the Post Office and there, waiting for me was a huge cardboard box. I *had* to open it to make sure that everything was okay, because the Oz Quarantine service had placed a sticker on the box saying that they had inspected it. Lots of purple packages, beautifully wrapped!

I am under STRICT instructions not to open it all until Christmas, so I guess I'll have to wait. The truth is, I was kind of hoping it *would* take 3 weeks to arrive because then I would have a better chance of fighting off temptation.

It has Mary S (Internet etiquette prevents me from writing the surname) written on the label and I thought I would have a great deal of trouble figuring out her Mudcat name, but she posted to the Morticia's got troubles thread, mentioned Portland, and signed herself Mary, so I now know --- ta-da!!! --- that Sinsull is my Secret Santa.

So, miracles do happen. It only took 10 days to get here.

She has obviously taken pity on a poor woman whose attitide to presents is not unlike the "seafood diet", i.e. "see food and eat it".

[When my sister and I were kids she could keep her Easter eggs for a whole week just taking one little nibble once a day until they were all gone. Mine were all gone in about 10 minutes.]

She has included a newspaper and a magazine for me to keep busy with while waiting for Christmas Day to roll around. Slowly. And now I get the references to the Union.

There is a very very interesting twist to this story, which I will reveal later, maybe in a week or so.

My Secret Secretive Silent Sneaky Secret Santa's package arrived safe and sound! Checked my post office box after closing time on Saturday to find a yellow card saying that a parcel too big for the box was being held for me, so I couldn't pick it up until yesterday – oh anguish!

The cardboard envelope has several stamps on it that say "Australia" and there's a return address from Oz, so unless my Sneaky Secret Santa is being extremely sneaky by asking one of our Oz 'Catters to send it for him or her, I'd guess that my SS is one of those Oz 'Catters themselves.

Ah, but which one? Sandra in Sydney? Depends on how strictly one defines "Sydney" since that's not what the return address says (even though the mailer's first initial is "S", it may or may not be my SS's first initial! Might be his or her Spouse, or Sister...) (or Seudonym... *G*). Then again, Helen posted as a guest using IE on the same day my SS talked about using IE at work... On the other hand, my SS made a reference earlier to having been off-line for a while, but the posting histories of both Helen and Sandra show no great gap between posting dates at that time (heck, I've been away from the 'Cat more than they have, recently!). Same with alison's posting history. Hmmmm... did I miss any other Australian 'Catters on the SS sign-up list?

Ennnee-wayyy, I opened the envelope so I could look at the cat wrapping paper! My SS is right, there's a multitude of cats there: lots and lots of click-art carefully collected by my SS and printed out on blue paper, tied with a blue ribbon! Big cats, little cats, "hang-in-there" cats, Bill-the-Cat cats, all wonderful cats! :^) :^) :^)

Now comes the hard part: waiting till the 25th to open it! I've been good so far; I put the package into my big knitted Christmas stocking right away so that only the corner of the package peeks out to tempt me. If need be, I'll push it in farther toward the stocking's toe ("out of sight, out of mind", they say...   yeah, right!). Wonder if my SS's true identity will be revealed when I open it?

So thank you, Secret Secretive Silent Sneaky Secret Santa, for sending the pressie and the fun of anticipating Christmas morning! Meow! :^) :^) :^) :^) :^)

I remember in some thread you mentioned singing cowboy songs. Ever sing any outlaw ballads? Might be a cloo there somewhere.

Of course you'd have to find the right one.

And interpret it correctly.

1. Firecat was SINSULL's SS, SINSULL was my SS, and I was Firecat's SS

2. SINSULL and I both decided to crochet a present, but I chose something small and do-able - a small bag, but SINSULL started hers but didn't finish in time - an afghan.

OK, kid, here's a bit more help.

Clue words like "beaver," and "geoduck," as well as "emerald and rose (and sunshine)" are geographical clues.

Some of the Mudcatters I've met in person are Mousethief, Amos, Barbara, Art Brooks, Reggie Miles, John P, Charley Noble, and Mudjack. Some of the Mudcatters I've "spent the most time with" on line are Aine, Jerry Rasmussen, Amos, Ferrara, KatLaughing, Marion, MTed, MMario, Sharon A and musicmic.

I've also been nipped at a few times by miscellaneous gargoyles and guests and argued with Doug R on occasion. (Boy, THAT narrows it down, doesn't it!?) :- D

Had I looked around me, beyond the end of my nose, back in the early '70s, I might have ended up pickin' an' grinnin' with Rick F. or Little Hawk (except I don't think LH had been born yet).

And, oh, yes. I learned to ice skate up there in your country.

Don't be too surprised if one of your prezzies ends up coming down your virtual chimney on Christmas day!

A Santa missile from Jerusalem???? Oy !

Great stamp and I see that I am in very good company. I'm not as old as the painting (luckily) nor as young as the jeep (sadly) but would seriously like to have both of them. I must admit I've never heard of or seen either one of these particular Mudlarks before (the Van Gogh surprised me as I thot I knew his body of work well). But the Austin MudlarkP24 somehow reminds me of a cherished '52 MGTD that was once the love of my life....

You have seriously flummoxed me with all these addresses...silly really, because once you're up there with the flying reindeer and all, surely you can go anywhere. I have a friend from London staying with me...she said if only she had your address she'd send you a letter from there for me saying "Mudlark is on the wing" or something equally cryptic.

This is more fun than I've had at Christmas in a long time....

I've been cross-referencing threads, indexing clues - picture the garage in "A Beautiful Mind" - the inside of my head feels like that.

I need some sidekicks to do the grunt work, like Matlock had, and Rockford.

Hee Hee. Well, Nathan in Texas is probably a better guess than sandra in sydney, but I wouldn't say you're really getting warm; there are only seven continents, after all. Sorry, I've never heard of the Nathanial Wyatt. Is there a folk song about him? Remember, this is a folk music forum. So to get my clue (assuming it was straight and not designed to confabulate) I would suggest going to the songs rather than state history. [And, incidentally, I've not personally denied being either sandra or nathan in their respective locations, though nathan may, and Sandra has (if that wasn't me trying to muddy the waters) ]

Hoagy Charmichael, eh? Well let's see if there's a clu there.. A Hoagie is a submarine sandwich; the Beatles sang "Yellow Submarine"; yellow is the color of a lemon; there's a Mrs Lemon on the Secret Santa Sign-up list. Whee. This is fun! Subject: RE: BS: Mystery Santa Goofy Hints
From: GUEST,Genie's possible Santee

Genie - So that's what you're thinkin', eh? :-)

I'm not saying I'm your Santee, but let's assume for argument's sake I had come to the conclusion that I was. Let's also suppose I appropriated some lyrics, from - oh I don't know, David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album, let's say, in order to support my premise. We can further assume that my extensive research has unearthed not only your true identity, but 'gasp' the fact that you Santa, are, indeed, a woman.

Back to the appropriated lyrics - normally, I'd have no qualms about deconstructing the source material and reconstituting it into something usable for my own nefarious schemes. T'would be a simple thing indeed to blithely replace the gender references in the song from masculine to feminine. But wait! Let us visit the first line of the alleged song - "....lives on his back". Caution flags are raised and warning alarums sounded! (I've always like that spelling of alarums.) For could not offense be taken were that line be changed to "...lives on her back"?

Look at it from my point of view, dear possible Santa. I hardly know you. You may indeed "be outrageous." You may "scream" and you may "bawl", but do you "live on your back"? All the evidence compiled says "no"! To the contrary, all indications point to the truth - that you are generous, kind, tolerant and considerate. Who am I to cast nastertiums upon your character? The spirit of the season and my core value system entwine to forstop me from sullying your good name, and tarnishing my own modest reputation, should it exist, by such a cheap and shoddy maneuver.

Blessings of the season,
You hypothetical Santee
