Lyr ADD: Working Man (Rita MacNeil)

Subject: Lyrics wanted to Working Man(?Canadian)
From:

I've heard this song twice recently and my wife is keen to learn it. It is very applicable to Cornwall with all the tin mining that used to go on. I may be able to dredge up some of the words if needed but lyrics and chords if poss would be appreciated.

I think this right. The chords are the same for the verses.

Chorus
G
It's a working man I am
C G
And I've been down underground
D
And I swear to God if I ever see the sun
G
Or for any length of time
C G
I can hold it in my mind
D G
I never again will go down underground

At the age of sixteen years
He quarrelled with his peers
Who vowed there'd never be another one
In the dark recess of mines
Where yo age before your time
And the coal dust lies heavy on your lungs

Chorus

At the age of sixty four
He'll greet you at the door
And he'll gently lead you by the arm
Through the dark recess of mines
Oh he'll take you back in time
And he'll tell you of the hardships that were had

Chorus

Mick

HTML preformat commands added--but I'm still not sure it looks the way you intended. --JoeClone, 13-Mar-02.

Workin' Man by Rita MacNeil (who lives in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, where many of the mines extended (and still extend?) out beneath the ocean floor

Choose a key you like: D on left, G on right. I like D, capo 4
(I can't get chords lined up above words either :-)

D - It's a workin' man I am G -
G D And I've b'n down underground C G
- - A - And I swear to God if I ever see the sun - - D -
D - Or for any length of time G -
G D I can hold it in my mind C G
- A D - I never again will go down underground - D G -

D - At the age of sixteen years G -

- - A - Who vowed they'd never see another one - - D -
D - In the dark recess of the mines G -

Hi, Mick - I fixed your text as best I could. Main thing to remember is that you have to put a line break symbol at the end of each line, which is < br > (no spaces within the brackets) - the angle brackets mark off HTML commands. I haven't found a good way to space chords, so I think it may be best to put them in like they are here (I just used your text and put in the break marks). Take a look at the "Rise Up Singing" songbook - their method of displaying chords is reasonably understandable.

The last verse refers to the Miners' Museum, which is staffed by old miners.

From: GUEST,digit@hotkey.net.au

Artist: Dolly Parton
Song Title: Working Man
Album:
[Buy " " CD]

Coal miners, old and young, dirty and dusty coveralls
Silver lunch can in hand
Going down the rake, father and son
Carrying on that age old tradition
You see they are working men

CHORUS
It's a working man I am and I've been down underground
And I swear by God if I ever see the sun
Over any length of time, I can hold it in my mind
Then I will never again go down underground

At the age of sixteen years, he quarreled with his peers
And he swears there will never be another on
In the dark recess of the mine, where you age before your time
And the coal dust lies heavy on your lungs

REPEAT CHORUS

At the age of sixty-four, if he lives that long, he'll greet you at the door
And he'll gently lead you by the arm
In the dark recess of the mine, he can take you back in time
Tell you of the hardships that were there

REPEAT CHORUS TWICE

No, I never again will go down underground

RUSH - WORKING MAN
-Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson

I get up at seven, yeah
And I go to work at nine
I got no time for living
Yes, I'm working all the time

Chorus
It seems to me
I could live my life
A lot better than I think I am
I guess that's why they call me
They call me the working man
They call me the working man
I guess that's what I am

I get home at five o'clock
And I take myself out a nice, cold beer
Always seem to be wondering
Why there's nothing going down here

Chorus
