24 Oct 02 - 05:22 AM (#809928) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ive got a lovely bunch of coconuts From: Dave Bryant Perhaps Breezy should be in on this one - after all didn't he used to be the singer with Billy Cotton (only joking John - I know it was Alan Breeze). Can anyone remember another song (which I think was Billy Cotton) which went: Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh what a referee, what a referee, what a referee. Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh he went and lost his pea, And his little wooden whistle wouldn't whistle. WAKEY - WAKEEE ! - (cue "Somebody stole my girl"). |

24 Oct 02 - 08:31 AM (#810026) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Ive got a lovely bunch of coconuts From: Dave Bryant I found a parody version HERE, but it does play the tune. BTW Fred Heatherton's original opening verse appears to be: - Down at the English Fair, One ev'ning I was there, When I heard a showman shouting Underneath the blare. The "Barnum" version seems to be a modification by various American performers - although the Danny Kaye words are the English ones. The lyrics sound much more likely to be English rather than American. Do you have coconut shies at American Fairs anyway ? |
