I have no inside knowledge or contacts as i'm something of a newcomer to the chilly north! xx (Uncle Greg are you out there? It's your favourite Dunnette!) |
22 Nov 02 - 07:31 PM (#833010) Subject: RE: Fiddler seeks band in County Durham From: smallpiper Monday nights at the Colpits - brilliant session. Im pretty sure they'll be able to help with the band thing as well. Thursday nights at the Dunn Cow - not been to it but people come from all over to attend so I presume its going to be worth a visit. That do you? |

24 Nov 02 - 05:38 AM (#833739) Subject: RE: Fiddler seeks band in County Durham From: Edain I go to the Thrusday night singing session in the Colpits and if the Monday session is anything like it then you're in for a great time. The University Folk Society meets on tuesday in the Dun Cow (I think) and is open to all (again, I think) they could probably help too. |

Loveme, I was talking to Jellybeam at the Rawcliffe session last night (great night, thanks all) and she reckons you ought to tap into the Newcastle scene, and contact her son, Ian Stephenson, who's doing the traditional music degree there. |

29 Nov 02 - 04:57 AM (#836979) Subject: RE: Fiddler seeks band in County Durham From: nickp Oh memories - glad to hear the 'Pitts' is still going - must be 25 years since I was last in the session there. And the Uni folk club went from St. Mary's college to one of the newer ones (name escapes me) then to the Big Jug on Claypath and and shortly after I moved away. Those were good times. Nick |

To promote their own gigs to people their own age.... Post pictures of most recent festivals, gigs and sessions.... To help each other to get gigs and make contacts.. Learn about opportunities for young folk musicians dancers and singers…... Or to just praise (or not) today's folk scene and how we see our selves fitting in to it... Come and join our session, let's make a big sound!" Loads of young folkies online, many in the Northeast, but beware, if you consider Mudcat is full of drivel then big session shows that the next generation of drivelers is alive and well (usefull to learn to speak Llama first!). |
