Does anyone know exactly who Mother Brown was and why she was threatened with amputation? Who is the songs narrator? Were the police informed?
(Seriously interested in the songs history if anyone knows)
Cheers

The original went "It's your bloomin' birthday, so [forgotten, but nothing to do with sawing legs off]". I don't know how or why it got changed; probably Billy Cotton ...

According to the version I've got the words and music were written by Harry Weston and Bert Lee. It was copyrighted in 1939 by The Peter Maurice Music Co. Ltd.London. There's nothing to say why it was written though.
