When I played the tune for Uncle Jeff Guthrie(who taught Woody how to play) he exclaimed, "That's not 'The Cowboy Waltz', that's the 'McGreevey(?) Waltz!". Telling the story to John Cohen, he informed me that the tune is also known as the "Green Valley Waltz". Mark Ross |

It was fairly untypical of The Incredible String Band(Apart from sounding completely bizarre!), and not the sort of thing you expect to hear on Radio 2, either. BJ |

I might be able to do an ABC of the tune in the next couple of days. My guess is that it's probably a traditional american tune to which the ISB set some pseudo-western lyrics - they sing it in an exaggerated bluegrass-type accent. WassaiL! V |
