Till today some of them still follow an old tradition. After ending their apprenticeship (three years) they wander for three years and a day from one master craftsman to the next, working a time there and learning a lot more of their craft from other masters. You know them by their typical black working suits and broad brimmed hats they seldom take off. Sometimes they enter pubs, knock the floor with their sticks, and with ritual words ask for a handout to continue their journey. This is not begging! In the collection is included a lot of amorous affairs - naturally, since these journeymen are young and panting for the girls - sometimes a little bit too dirty for adolescent ears to listen. |

It was only years later that she told them it was about a husband who kills his wife, puts her in a gunny sack and throws her in the river. I would LOVE to find this song if anyone has any idea what song I'm referring to. I can only mumble the first few lines of the song, so I do not know how the German lyrics go... otherwise I would type them here for you (as I know it would be of more help in finding the song). "died I think in the seventies". So it might have been the late sixties or the early eighties as well? That gives a range of about 20 years ... "I think she committed suicide" - so it could be natural death or accident or murder as well. Could the song be "Weinen" (German for "to cry"/"to shed tears")? (But the only song I can find by that title is sung by Adel Tawil, recorded 2013, so that can't be the one). |
